Used Projector?

Hey guys,

So the GM has decided we need a projector for power point presentations. Being a small company, we often buy stuff used. What about a projector? Any problems with buying one used or would this fall in the category of items you simply buy new no matter what?

Theres not really a cut and dry answer.
It's like a tv... Really depends on the circumstances of why they are getting rid of it, and of course the price they are asking for it. If you can pick one up for $50 that's suppose to work and you trust them...then snag it. Some bulbs alone can be $40 and up so parts arent cheap. Might be better and more time effecient to get a factory refurbished for few hundred bucks and have the warranty. Always do your research and find out how much maintanence will cost after warranty is up too. Might pay a little more to buy one that has cheaper replacement parts available.

Hope this helps
Good luck

I was talking more along the lines of a laptop projector, not the old school type ones for clear plastic displays. Maybe I'm just reading your replies wrong. A New InFocus projector costs $1000 new

Yea thats what I was talking about too... I'm pretty sure PhillipSVT was too. Schools dont use the film projectors anymore. Even the poor schools have several Multi Media projectors. My daughters class last year had one permenatly mounted on the cieling and used it with a touch board, instead of a chalk board.

BUT.... Like I said before beware of replacemnt parts cost on what ever you get... bulbs can exceed $40 each and there are 3 bulbs. (RGB)

Ya, I was talking about the new projectors that hook up to your computer/Audio Visual system.... And for Schools I was talking about College ones. At our College, every classroom has a projector in it (school enrollment is 30,000... so a few classrooms). This is my last year, and I've seen 2 complete sets of projectors go through many buildings. Not to mention computers... Every year the computer labs get new computers.

So you should be able to pick up a good projector for a good deal.

From: ???.....depends on the day
The projector is not the big issue here....it is the light bulb....those damn things can cost HUNDREDS of dollars to replace....so make sure that you find out how many hours are on that bulb vs. what it is rated for....then find out how much they are to replace.....60% of the time it is more cost effective to purchase a new one.
