Thinking about a new camera...

http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTE...DigitalCameras

I currently have a Sony Cyber Shot, and for it's age I really like it. It uses the memory stick (which my Vaio PC has a built in reader for), and I have a couple of those now, so I would rather just stay with Sony.

My current camera is 2Mgpixel, 3x zoom. I'm not a photographer, but would like to dable some, and be able to do a little more than my current camera lets me. Mostly the zoom capabilities...

Well, the above link is what I'm thinking about. It's the entry level to Sony's high end stuff. Its a 5.1Mgpixel with 12x zoom, and you can add lenses.

I found one on ebay for $10 more than I can get one from Wal-Mart (no I haven't done any shopping around, just started looking), but the ebay one comes with tri-pod, case, additional lens, cleaning kit, 256Mb MS and reader. I'm not sure what all comes with the camera if I were to buy it elsewhere, but thought that sounded like a pretty good deal...

Any thoughts or opinions on the subject?

thanks...

Anything would be better then the POS HP I have. I dont care how "still" you are, the pics still come out blurry.

$500 bucks for the damn thing too.

That should be a good camera. Especially if you're trying to use your old memory sticks. Now, if you're looking to get the most camera for your money and don't care about the old memory sticks, then something like cannon or Fuji might be a better choice. Nothing really wrong with a Sony though.

If you have $1000 to spend, get the Canon Rebel XT SLR Digital.

It can be beat for the money. The pictures and flexibility we get can't be compared to our old Sony Digital.

Go big or stay on the porch!

I would love to have a Canon Rebel, but I would like to be able to reuse my Memory Sticks, and $1000 for a camera is just more than I want to spend... $500 is bad enough, but do-able...

I hear you, it was a pretty big bite, but my wife really likes to take pictures.

The extra lenses and memory sticks set me back another $400.

Yikes! I figured when I need to spend $500 in that Daystar lift kit, and another $800 on tires, I'll remind her of the camera!

I have an old Sony 4.1mp digital still camera.... Since I got the Panasonic GS65 3-CCD vid camera, I never use the still camera.

BTW, the sony camera's are nice... If you want to take fast pics the SLR's are still the way to go. But for the price, the 5.1 you are looking at looks nice.

That's one of my only 2 complaints with my Sony DSC-F505V, 3.3MP.
With the factory Carl Zeiss, Vario-Sonnar lens it is picture perfect. No pun intended. Even the macro lets me get with in a few thousands of the lens with out a macro lens. But my 2 complaints are file saving time is less than ideal, and the lack of user shutter control. But for a point and shoot I can't ask for a better camera.

I use that one for risky shoots were damage my come to the camera,
I borrow my buddies, D rebel for studio or product box shoots on occasion. Then I use my wifes Kodak Easy Share for traveling "tourist" pics.

Here is what I use for a card reader 7 in 1 card reader dash board

Here is one from my 3.3 MP Sony
This is a raw original file straight from the camera, It is untouched, untoned, just exactly as the camera seen it.
It was taken of some flowers I bought my wife and she set them as a center piece on our dinner table. This one was so perfect I had to take a picture of it. I tuned off all the lights and blocked all external light sources, did not use an external flash, only using the cameras built in flash for illumination and presto.
Tada

My main complaint on my current digital camera is the poor battery usage and the difficulty doing night shots. My friend's Powershot SD400 took a ton of photos on one charge and also took good night photos.
