Calling Marc Carpenter to the Budweiser phone please

Does the "civilian" shooter remind you of your old swim buddies? I talked to a Marietta cop today, he said local PD isn't releasing any info on him except to say he is not former law enforcement. He went on to say that the three shots: two to the chest, one to the forehead. There aren't many who could triple tap a guy like that! One scumbag down, too bad the woman died in the accident.

Carjacker, Victim Killed in Cobb

Reported By: Kevin Rowson

An armed bystander shot and killed a carjacker Monday morning in Acworth, Ga., after the suspect caused an accident that killed his female victim.

Late that evening, police were continuing to piece together details of the carjacking and accident that shut down Cobb Parkway (U.S. 41) at Acworth Drive.

According to police, sometime after 9 a.m., 30-year-old Kimberly Boyd of Acworth stopped at a gas station at Highway 41 and Upper 92/Lake Acworth Drive in Cobb County. A man there approached Boyd and carjacked her, taking her with him.

Some witnesses said the woman struggled with her assailant, who also beat her before speeding away in her vehicle. Other witnesses said the woman struggled with the man after the carjacker drove off with her in tow.

Traveling down the roadway, the sport-utility vehicle ultimately struck a guardrail before the carjacker tried to turn eastbound onto Lake Acworth Drive from southbound Cobb Parkway. He veered the sport-utility vehicle directly into the path of a large green cement truck traveling northbound, police said.

The cement truck T-boned the Sequioa, killing the young mother when the truck struck the passenger side of her vehicle, police said.

Still carrying a handgun, the carjacker fled from the SUV on foot, running toward the Raceway gas station on the northeast corner of the intersection.

A man who had witnessed the carjacking and followed the Sequioa in his black 2004 Dodge Ram truck confronted the gunman in the intersection. According to police, the citizen – identified as Shawn Roberts – shot the suspect three times, killing him.

Roberts, of Acworth, was taken into custody for questioning by Cobb County police. Via telephone, he later told 11Alive’s Kevin Rowson he had no choice but to shoot the carjacker because he was turning his gun toward him. Roberts said it was him or the carjacker.

Rebecca Porter, who says she saw the shooting from her nearby business, says Roberts’ actions might have actualy prevented another loss of life.

“He didn’t have a chance,” she said.

“He pointed his gun and the other guy started shooting, which is a good thing because if he had gotten away, somebody else could have gotten hurt. So, I feel bad for him, but I’m kind of grateful. That I’m normally here alone, it’s really scary.”

Cobb County police said it appeared the citizen acted lawfully and, quite possibly, prevented another crime from taking place.

“The suspect was armed and, at some point, as he began to bring the weapon up, the civilian, who was armed, shot and killed him here at this location," said Cobb police Cpl. Dana Pierce.

The name of the cement truck driver had not been released by Monday evening. Police said he did not suffer any injury in the crash.

The carjacker’s description also drew Acworth police to the scene Monday because it fit one given of a man who is wanted for brutally raping a woman in Acworth last Tuesday.

Acworth police Officer Wayne Dennard said, “Like I said, the general description does match, so we’re going to follow that through. Hopefully, upon autopsy we’ll be able to confirm our evidence notes from the rape scene to this suspect.”

Last week, a man posing as an evacuee from Louisiana approached a woman as she walked out her front door. The man beat and raped the woman inside her apartment before forcing her to drive to a bank in Cobb County and take money out of an ATM.

When the woman approached the bank, she ran inside the building to seek help. The suspect fled from the scene in the woman's car, which was later found abandoned.

Investigators are likely to use DNA evidence to determine if there is a connection between the Acworth suspect and the slain carjacker in Cobb County.

Had a few swim buddies that never made it out of that phase of BUDS so I can not just relate it to just those individuals, but I knew a few others in my time that could have tagged the 'target' as this guy did....No doubt all 3 were intended for the forehead but the "shooter" was so intent on placing them there that he followed the son-of-a-b!tch when his head slumped over and put the other two in his chest...Nice work for a deserving target I would say..

Sorry I thought that was funny.

But whats up with the witness?

I feel bad for him, but I’m kind of grateful.
Feel bad for him? She should feel bad for Shawn. He had to kill a man. Sure a criminal but thats not something you forget about the next day.

"ONE SHOT ONE KILL"
Gee, I was always under the impression that you could do more damage to
the head which would take out all the motor functions and thus making the
target inoperable. Guess I didn't listen or made one hell of a lot of mistakes
in my time.

i was always told that as a boot Marine also one shot one kill, but i have seen a man take 20 rounds of 5.56 from a S.A.W. (squad atomatic weapon) and still be alive, ever since that day if i am engaging multiple targets i will put enough rounds till they stop moving, there is nothing worse than putting one round in a hostile and advancing and then recieving fire from your rear from a target you thought was dead, i try to aim at the chest and fire a controled three round one hits chest second about 4" higher and third in the head, this is with a M16 a2 just my experience with combat and putting a man down

I am not saying you were not taught to do just that.
But a head shot will 99.99% of the time stop the hostile from being a threat.
Knock out the motor skills and he becomes inoperable.
Too many times while in Viet Nam I saw hostiles that were hit in the upper torso, some with multiple hits that still had the ability to return fire.
I never saw a gook with his head blown open and brains splattered that was a threat..

For me it doesn't matter how many shots it takes. If it takes 3 you use 3, if it takes 20, use 20. Just please make sure you finish the job because us medics have to patch them back up if they're still alive. I never understood that, bring them back to life, so that can shoot at us again.......

that is very true, was not trying to argue, i think it is just a opertunity thing if you can take the time to get a headshot i would defanitly go for it, i am just saying most times there wont be time for a well aimed shot, so i aim mid mast, alot greater chance of hitting the target compared to the head, also use three shot method stated above, and i was taught one shot one kill but situation dictates

Sir,

You just made me smile. Thank you.

ETA: I know a lot of people that can and would put two to the chest and one to the head whenever wherever. Marksmanship is not confined to the military.

More on the story:
1) female vic was shot, but alive when the cement truck hit her SUV
2) perp was tied to previous rape through DNA
3) perp is a convicted sex offender.

I thought "One shot, One kill" was the motto of the snipers? Not really relevent here.

Lots of people could hit a paper target with two in the chest and one in the head, or an unarmed human target. My point was the "no law enforcement experience" civilian (with a weapon in a shoulder holster yet) plugged the armed perp in the heat of the moment and only fired his weapon 3 times.

Maybe I read Rogue Warrior too literally.

A sniper will take a one shot, a head shot above all others first and only. If there is no head shot then he waits...... and waits...... His opportunity will come and then its all cross hairs and skill...
