Let's just hope Yellowstone doesn't go bang...

That would wipe out the whole USA, except for the southern tip of Texas, the gulf shores, Florida and portions of South Carolina.

Cars would be undriveable, planes couldn't fly, and volcanic ash 1/4" thick would cover everything from Wyoming to the Carolina's... Some scientists fear it would be an E.L.E..

I recently went to a talk perfromed by the former head geologist from Yellowstone, and he said 'Super Volcanoe' was a bunch of sensationalized BS. If/when an eruption occurs at Yellowstone, it will be a basalt flow (like the one mentioned in the article) and not a huge explosion that would remove half of Wyoming/Montana/Idaho.

That's good to know...
I hope he's right.... Determining whather he's right, or Discovery channel will all depend on the size of the eruption, whenever it happens..

Actually, the main determining factor is the amount of SiO2 in the magma
Relatively low SiO2 = slow, easy, non-explosive eruptions - like in Hawaii
Relatively high SiO2 = BOOM! - Mount St. Helens type eruption
