Whats a good beater?

I have been looking for an 80s bronco full size to use as a beater for the woods and winter. They are pulling a good dollar and are not as cheap as I had hoped.
Any one have an idea what would make a good 4x4 beater?

An older Ranger with the 4.0 motor. They were paired with the 8.8" rear end which is the same as on the F150's with the 4.2 or 4.6 motors. The 4.0 is rock solid and dependable as an anvil. My '94 Ranger still runs great and has never had any major issues.

I got my 88 beater for 800. Course I put 1200 into it since, but still pretty good.

Talking

I used to have a 84 2.8 liter Ranger 4x4. For what it was it really surprised me. Even driving around in foot deep snow I never got stuck. Yeah the 2.8 was on the raspy tappy side, but never failed to run on me. Of course it took a little work to make it more dependable, but I liked it. It was a blast to throw around offroad. ,,,,,98

I agree on the Ranger ideas, my old Ranger went thru any ol thing, our Jeep was great in the snow but it was never really warm in the cab for those really cold days. My old Ranger had the best heater of anything ive ever owned! ME

Woah Mary!

Off topic,

Change link in your sig between the image tags there Mary. You need a direct link to the pic instead of the page with the pic. You can get that by right clicking on the pic, and going to props, then copy the image link.

I had an old Cj but it was fairly high maintnence, I would reccomend a Suzuki Samuri, those little things are tough, can fit down any trail and you can buy one fully built for 1200 bucks!

Ever consider a old International Harvester : Scout?

The Harvester, has plenty of room for supplies, and they are fun to drive. Ever see Dream Catcher? The truck they drove to the cabin was a Scout. A harvester is like that sorda.
