Help For Katrina

Hey all, my house sits on a main feed for electricity so I'm taking advantage of it,
Louisiana Needs Help and plenty of it, the new orleans area (lake nwe orleans)was hammered by katrina but I'm on the other side of the river and was spared. the Looters have ARMED themselves and are running wild they got most of the guns from burglarizing business and pawn shops. a NOPD officer was shot in the head while confronting 4 looters, they have been apprehended, the police in the area are PREPAIRED for what ever resistance. I am doing the best i can do to survive this. May God forgive me for what I must do to survive and protect myself and my brothers in blue
I'm not too proud to ask, so pray for us

I agree dean. I have a good friend who is a state trooper and the people who have stayed behind are the gangs and criminal element. They are just waiting to get most of the non criminals out and then they will hunt them down like commandos. They also will not allow news cameras to ride along. In the end this might just clean up New Orleans. God BLess dean. Remeber aim center mass.

Update

It is bad here. the looters are shooting at the police and that is the reason we cannot save or help the people that need it. It is rumored that 150 NOPD officers walked off the job and 300 are MIA.
I Jefferson parish we are getting help from police from all over we have police from georga, illinois, texas and some are comming from michigan. the military is here so
there is light at the end of the tunnel, but I hope its not a train

What is wrong with people! There always has to be somebody that takes a terrible situation and makes it worse. Arming themselves and SHOOTING the people that are doing thier job, disgusting! I've heard that the National Guard has been sent in and has been ordered to use deadly force to get control of the situation, and get those that need help out. Once a few of these hoodlums get a bullet in the head, hopefully they think twice and put down the guns.

Do whatever is necessary to keep yourself and those you care about safe, nobody will blame you for it.

Got the word.

My station will be sending a medic unit and 4 paramedic/firefighters, myself being one, to assist with the efforts in New Orleans. I hope things will have calmed down prior to me arriving there. Our deployment may be from 7-10 days in duration. I am proud to represent my company and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and hope I am able to help out in any way possible during my deployment.

Talk to you guys later, best regards,

pgh_medic

Hang tough and do what you have to do. I'm glad that whatever citizens are armed are able to defend themselves from the human trash.

Here's a satellite picture of the city, you can zoom in and move it around. I'm sure there are probably better images out there but I found this one. It's provided courtesy of the Associated Press.

"Even though streets are strewn with storm debris, some neighborhoods remain flooded and almost homes all lack electricity and drinking water, Jefferson Parish residents will be allowed to return Monday at 6 a.m., Parish President Aaron Broussard reiterated Saturday, despite widespread skepticism from state and other parish officials."

I was watching the news earlier and there are people still refusing to leave the flooded area in NO. A guy was pleading with this women who was standing in knee deep water on here front step to evacuate. You could hear her kids yelling in the background. Don't know if she finally gave in. I just can't imagine, if only for here kids sake, not leaving.

Hey Dean,
Just got updated orders from our group, we are being deployed to Lafayette, LA. Can anyone tell me about this area? How bad the damage is, demographics and such. I have never been to LA, I have looked at a map and have seen it is close to New Orleans, so I am imagining the destruction is bad as well. Anything you guys could provide me will be helpful. Our unit departs on Saturday the 10th, early in the morning. I expect it will be close to a 16 hour journey from Pittsburgh. Would be nice to meet a brother F150onliner! Stay safe down there.

Best regards,

pgh_medic

Lafayette, La is where some of the evacuated people have gone, the area is not damaged
we are getting LE support from all over the country, I'm riding with the cheif of police from a sherrifs dept. in georgia that had no authroization to be here by FEMA, He came anyway, but we gladly welcome his dept. with open arms and our sheriff deputized all his men that he brought.
NYPD is here.
things are getting better here
I need a break
