Teeming with Water Moccassins.. (New Orleans)
Teeming with Water Moccassins.. (New Orleans)
The rupture of a 60 Meter long section of the levee caused water from Lake Ponchartrain to spill into the city-center of New Orleans; as did the storm surge- leaving parts of the city 6-20 feet under water....
That sai- the part that got me was when news reporters said teh water was "teeming with water moccassins".
For you city-slickers that don't know what a water mocasin is; it's the same thing as a cotton-mouth. Just imagine a black (or grey or sandy looking) rattle snake, with no rattle and a bad/aggressive attitude; that prefers water, but can live on the land indefinitely...
They're gonna find snakes all over New Orleans now..
I guess I'm cancelling my Thanksgiving trip... I usually stay in that Holiday Inn next to the Riverwalk; or the one next to teh SuperDone with the big clarinet painted down the side... I'll stay high & dry this year, in the D.F. Dubya...

I was at "Ground Zero" last week looking at a construction project -- Pass Christian, MS. My guess is that the project I was inspecting is no longer standing, since it was only about a mile off the water. The house was on a channel that led directly out to the Gulf, and the guy (the builder and future homeowner) already had his new, large, pleasure boat tied up to a nice treated lumber slip he had constructed.
I'm wondering how much, if anything, is left of the stuff I saw while driving on Highway 90 from Gulfport back to the New Orleans airport (?).
Oh yeah -- about the snakes. When I lived back in Kansas City, MO, back in the early 90's, they had this big flood that washed away a local graveyard. They had all these old caskets floating around and washing up into peoples yards. THAT WOULD ****** FREAK ME OUT! Yikes!

I arrived TDY at Gulfport in 1969 just 3 days before Camile hit. I could not believe the total distruction and loss of life. It was an experience I do not want to relive, or wish on anyone... My heart and prayers go out to those who experienced Katrina.. Makes me want to dislike the Katrina I know.
