Hmm, thats weird. My brother called U-Haul today to rent the dolly for this saturday and they looked it up and said "Hell yeh, no problem" If you dont see me on the news saturday night, I'll post how it went here.

I believe the U-haul tow dollies have a max weight of 3,400 lbs. if the vehicle being towed is front wheel drive and 3,900 lbs if the vehcicle being towed is rear drive. You can look at the manual at Uhauls site. If you plug in the type of vehicles towing and being towed, it will tell you if its OK on their web page.

When I rented mine, they were sticklers on the details and double checked my truck's hitch and weight rating. Of course they can't really see the vehicle you plan to tow, so you could say it was something else if the Windstar is too heavy...

Spend the extra $5 or what ever and get a 16'-18' car hauler trailer or a flat bed. Your truck WILL handle it no problem, even if you don't have a hitch and just use your bumper. But since you have a boat I'm sure you have atleast a class III hitch! If it dosen't handle it, then you need to trade it off anyway!

DO NOT use a car dolly! I repeat DO NOT use a dolly. So many reasons, but for your safety, the safety of others on the road and the safety of both of your vehicles get a trailer instead. A car dolly is just barely one step above a log chain and a piece of pipe! Actually I would rather pull with a tow bar than a dolly. If there is a big price diference for a trailer then you can ussually rent a tow bar and they come with 20' of trailer wire with magnetic tail lamps to stick ontop of the Wind Star. Don't use a dolly though.

Yea I don't see anything that you can input data into either. This page gives you the needed specs of everything. The trailers and dollies are towards the bottum of the page.

Give us a little information about your truck...

..and then venture over to the Towing and Hauling section for replies by people knowledgable about the topic.

See you over there

I just looked up the weight of a Windstar: ~4,000lbs

Max load for dolly while towing front wheel drive vehicle: 3,450 lbs

Go w/ PSS Mag's advice.

Brewdude & PSS Mag - On the U-haul site, go to rates & reservations. When you try to reserve the dolly and get specific rental rates, it will ask you about your vehicle and the vehicle you are towing. They will confirm or deny that it is a recommended set up.

FWIW, when U-haul had trouble locating my my 'reserved' dolly I looked into a trailer. My V6 F150 truck was not equipped to haul a heavy trailer and car. Some of the rental places will only rent you a car trailer if you also rent a truck to pull it with.
