Replacement TV

Well, after Sony tried to fix my TV three times they replaced it with the new model. The fan made a loud humming noise that was very irritating and after replacing one fan 2 times and the other 1 time they gave up and just replaced it. Great customer service! I did not even have to fight with them to replace it. Very nice.

I bought my old TV back in December of '04. My old TV was this one:

Sony KF-50WE610:

They replaced it with the sony KDF-E50A10. I love this new TV. The case is smaller and sleeker. The new one is 46.5" wide vs. 54.5" for the old one. I never like the big speakers on the side of the old one, especially since I did not even use the speakers due to my Home Theater setup.

Hopefully, this one will be trouble-free. The only option that the old one had that the new one does not is picture-in-picture but I never used it anyways. The new one also has the new HDMI connector and a built-in HD tuner.

I got it all hooked up and it works great. Now I have to find a computer monitor cord to hook up my laptop to it and play some games on it.

Here is the review that I am typing up for Epinions:

I purchased the Sony KF-50WE610 last December. It was just replaced with the Sony KDF-E50A10. The original one had a loud "humming" fan and Sony could not fix it. They replaced one of the fan twice and the other once and then they told me that they would do a replacement. I was assuming that they would replace it with the same TV or the newer version of the Sony KF-50WE610 in all gray. To my surprise, they showed up with the KDF-E50A10!

Right out of the box this TV looks much nicer and more expensive. The case is smaller in all dimensions and it weighs 10 pounds less than the old one. This TV is 46.6” wide, 16.1” deep, 32.6” tall and weighs 72.0 lbs. The KF-50WE610 is 54.2” wide, 17.8” deep, 36.5” tall and weighs 81.6 lbs. The reduced width is mainly due to the fact that they moved the speaker to just under the screen in a type of port. I tried the speakers out and they actually sound pretty good. I really liked that they moved them from the side because I use my home theater system for sound and have the TV speakers turned off.

This TV comes with a built-in HD tuner, HDMI connection and a place to connect a PC with both audio and video. There is also a Component Video connection on the side of the unit, which replaced a standard S-Video/RCA connection on the front of the old TV. Both TV's have the CableCard slot. I do not use this function because I am using satellite.

The old TV had a couple of advantages over the new one, though. The old one had a Memory-Stick slot and picture-in-picture. Neither one was a big deal to me since I do not own a Sony digital camera and I never used the picture-in-picture.

I really like the look of this TV over my old one. Even the menus and on-screen displays are easier to read and look better. The remote is kind of strange due to the fact that Sony has created a button called “WEGA Gate”, which is where all of the settings are located. They should have just labeled it “Menu” or “Settings”.
