Thumbs up When's The Last Time You Saw A New One Of These?!

I was driving down a country road near my town the other day when I came upon this and nearly fell over backward in my truck:

I can honestly say that in my lifetime (I'm 40) I have never seen a new drive-in movie theatre being built! In fact, the only thing I've seen is them slipping into disrepair, and then eventually being torn down for a McDonalds and a new strip mall!

I'm pumped and can't wait to load up the cooler and go!

One of the last ones we had in this area sat deserted for years until the Ford dealer down the road relocated and built a new huge dealership. I remember seeing Back to the Future at that drive-in. What was that, twenty years ago?

It's located on 2920 about halfway between 249 and 290 -- just west of Tomball.

When I was a kid there was one about 7 miles outside of town. Which just happened to be 1/4 mile from my house! I can remember til I was like 4 or 5 years old going with my brother, mom and dad in our old Pinto Station Wagon. We would take sleeping bags, lay the seat down, then my brother and I would lay in the back and watch the movie til we fell asleep. It started showing a regular movie then would show a dirty movie for the second feature. Few years later when I was 10-15 my nieghbor buddy and I would say that we were going frogging. We would take a frog gig, a duffle bag to put them in, and our Hot Lights. We would slip an AM transistor radio into the bag and walk to the drive in to watch the ****. (We were the most popular kids to spend the night with then!) Then we would walk to a few ponds, gig a few frogs to have some bounty to show, then come back home sometimes 2:00 - 3:00 am. Who's ever house was the closest when we were done that's were we went, clean the frogs teh go to sleep wake up and one of us would go home so we could do it all again the next night! Welcome to summer fun in the country!

Then by the time I was 16 we went a few more times with other friends but was crappy old movies and had drawn a really rough crowd. Druggies and drug dealers, always a fight or two. After the second person died then they shut it down. Became a swap meet, then eventually it burned 2 years ago. Now the closest one we have are in Springfield (45 mins away) they have 2 Drive Inns. They are much better and a great experince!

That's pretty close to me.

When it opens up, we should arrange a Houston GTG there.
Keep an eye on the place.

Check it out the Starlite even has th3 old window mount speaker pods!

The one here use to broadcast the audio on an AM station! You just tuned your car radio (or battery operated if sneaking in and watching from the bushes) just tune in to thier station and listen.

We have a few drive in's around here. Went and saw dukes of hazard at one of them last week. Basically just tune your radio to 91.7FM and you get the sound right in your car. Theres a snack bar also at the place.
