AutoCAD/LDD users?

I have a question for those of you that use AutoCAD or Land Development Desktop. If you read a previous post of mine stating that I got a new plotter (HP Designjet 800ps), you would know that I am ready as hell to do some great prints. One of the other engineers here is experiencing some issues with printing aerial photos from AutoCAD 2005. He references these images (15 total @ 112MB each) into the drawing. When he goes to print the images to the printer, we get an "out of memory" error on the plotter itself, yet CAD says that the print job completed successfully. Sometimes the print does go through and start plotting, but only portions of the image displays and some layers are not plotted.

Now this plotter has 160MB of RAM and a 6GB HDD...this should be more than ample memory for these plots (some of my photoshop files are just as large as his referenced CAD files and have no problem with plotting).

Do any of you have similar problems with plotting? If you do work with aerial photos, what size do they tend to be and how do you tend to reference them in your drawing?

For the record, I do not really have the same problem as the other engineer does, but I use LDD 2006 and I have complied all the TIF files into a single JPG file within Photoshop to reduce the size and then created a seperate CAD file with the reference JPG and then reference the CAD file into my working drawings. I have not had a similar problem as him.

hey man, using AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 06 (damn autodesk), but should be similar enough... I've had problems printing any high level/large size images out of autocad to HP plotters- the driver is weak and has problems with cad programs...it will print parts here and parts there, picking and chosing as it likes.. greaaaat. your way seems pretty good, that should work...you could also go when you press plot, change the custom configuration of the 800ps on the Advanced tab, bottom right there should be a text option for Maximum Performance, and Don't run out of memory... max performance is default. you may try switching that. Also, are you running .PLT files, or are you plotting straight cad drawings? ive had better luck if printing direct cads as opposed to plts.

99% of the time I plot straight from PaperSpace. The other engineer refuses to use PaperSpace because the lines don't scale properly. I have never directly created a *.PLT file (that I am aware of). I have a service call into the company that I bought the plotter from to see if I can get some more "hands-on" help with this situation. I was thinking that this is due to a "weak driver"...but I was reluctant to assume that because HP is the "king" when it comes to large-format printing and Autodesk is a HUGE player in the CAD market...so you would feel confident to assume that the drivers would be rock solid....but, in our case with these aerial photos....it seems that they are not...
