I have a 10+ 32" Sony... still going strong.
Not sure what to tell you.
Anywhere locally that works on televisions? They might be able to isolate or fix the problem.
Sorry man...

You may need to have the TV Exorcist pay a vist . . .
Honestly though . . . does the TV Repairman profession still exist? I can't imagine that it would. These days, when electronics go, they're gone. - That sounds deep

With the hourly labour costs, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new TV. Besides, ten yo + technology is rather obsolete. Time for one of those newfangled High Def devices! Ever since I got HD (and DirecTV HD) the quality of my life has skyrocketed!!!

TV's are cheaper than ever. A tv that cost $500 ten years ago could be replaced with a better tv for $300 or $350 today. And like Kobi said, a repair shop is going to charge you approx. $50 per man hour (or more) to work on your set. And the final cost is ALWAYS more than your 'estimate'. I've lost one or two items to repair shops that promised a cheap fix only to tell me later "We have $200 in it so far and it still doesn't work". That way they get to keep the item and then resell it to 'make up their losses'.
Could be a number of things causing the problem. By the time you figure out what it is and risk getting electrocuted by the coil on the thing, you might as well go buy a shinny new one.
Chances are it needs a new circuit board that will cost you about as much as a replacement TV if you could find the part.
