First 'real' trail camera pics...

checked my camera after its first two days in the woods. Got a yearling doe, an adult doe (either two different times, or two different deer) and an 8point buck in heavy velvet. Had the delay set short, so I got many pics of the same dear; 32 pics in all. God, this is fun!

I'm assuming that this is some kind of camera set-up that you can place outside and is triggered by some kind of motion sensor ? Yes?

Yep.

Jamez, pland on spending around $300 +/- for a decent digital trail cam. 35mm models can be had for under $100, but a couple weeks worth of film and developing will pay for the digital fairly quickly.

Do you set the camera on a tripod or is it in some sort of box?

I will have to do some serious sweet talking for the next few weeks, but I think I can talk my wife into letting me get one.

Ok guys, I like seeing a deer as next as the much person, but what is the point of setting up a camera to take pictures of deer? I dont mean to be an @ss or buzzkill, but it just seems like the novelty would wear off after a week. Then again I always have been a 'city boy'

Where'd you pick yours up?

31Charlie,
They're typically used for scouting purposes. Set it up, leave it for a few days and then get the pics off to see if the spot is worth setting up a stand on.

Yeah I figured that there had to be a motive similar to that. Now what would be really cool if it was a webcam and rifle out there. When ever a deer showed up your computer would alert you. A program would open up that would essentially be a view of what the webcam sees with a target in the middle. Then you get to shoot the dear remotely!

Like BRUZRs_Daddy said, not to mention....you never know what your gonna get.....if anything. I look at it as a cool form of hunting.

Ever throw a perch trap in a creek bottom to see what kind cool things you could get out when left overnight? Same thing....well, sorda.

I live in town (I mean IN TOWN), and I have seen raccoon in the neighbors yard, possum, squirrels, armadillo's, all kinds of chit. I'd like to set it up along side my house and see who's friggin dog is tearing up our trash.

Got it at cabelas. It is a scouting tool. It allows you to see what times animals are going through an area, and also what specific deer are there. Here in PA we have antler restrictions, having pictures of the buck in the area can help you recognize the deer when you see them in the field so you don't need to waste as much time counting points and estimating length. Also lets you see the old bruisers that are too smart for you to catch a glimpse of in daylight. Plus it's just plain fun!
