Ughhh, How Do You Southerners Do It?

How the heck can you guys stand all the heat and humidity down south? I break out in a sweat just going out to get the mail. Yesterday was our hottest day of the year. Now its going to be in the 70's the next few days.

We had some really good storms roll through last night. Burke Lakefront Airport had winds in excess of 75 mph, thats a category 1 hurricane!! One of our local news choppers landed just in time before the big storm, was able to land on the yellow dolly thing and chock the wheels, but wasnt able to tug the chopper into the hanger in time. The traffic reporter said they watched in horror as the winds just blew the chopper probably 30 mph right into one of the fuel trucks. Sheesh.

Hey Triton, you guys get hit pretty bad?

You ought to seem them/us drive in snow.

I'm stuck right in the middle so I get the 100+ days and the 12"+ snow storms.

*sigh*

I get the best/worst of both worlds.

Seriously though...1/2" inch of snow south of Maryland and they shut everything down. Can't handle it at all.

How the heck do you guys get 70's in July?

Actually I can't handle it all that well any more either. I've pretty much taken off work for the last two weeks. Been out a couple times but I haven't worked past noon.

We just pretend to not be able to handle it, so we get free days off from work...

The morons down here turn on their flashers every time it starts raining! Frigging morons, I try and 'help' them get off the road since they are obviously broken down and incapable of driving any further. After all, that's what the emergency flashers indicate, isn't it?

I grew up in the north, and took my driving test in almost 2 feet of snow. Now I live by the gulf. I used to think that it would be funny if it snowed here, and watch everyone trying to drive. But last winter, it dropped to below freezing one time, had just a very small thin layer of ice on the road....people were just parking their cars on the side of the road and walking.

Only because everybody else had theres on. The only time we've done that was on our way home from Florida last year, going through the mountains and the fog was soooo freakin thick you couldnt see your hood. I was nervous.

How do you put up with those nasty Ohio winters?

I talk to people in Cleveland, and they say that theirs is
"the best location in the nation"

Are Big Chuck and Lil John still on tv up there?

AC + Stay inside a lot. It's been in the mid to high 90's with 100% humidity around here lately. It was 82 degrees at 0700 with 88% humidity.

I can "handle it". I just look at it like a day off work to play in the snow before it melts.

If I go to work, and I have to be inside all day, when I get off work, the snow will be almost or all gone by then, so I would miss the snow. It doesn't snow here much, and I take advantage every chance I get to play.

I understand up north its a pain in the ****, but down here in TX......it's a day of smiles ( ) and snow men.

I grew up and spent the first 30 years of my life in Minneapolis, so I know all about snow and cold. I've spent the last 9 years down here in Houston, so now I also know all about heat and humidity!

I don't think you ever really get used to the heat and humidity -- you just try to "grunt" through it and make it to late September when the weather starts getting decent again.

I think the thing that sucks the most about the summer weather down here is being "wet" all the time. I swear I can go out in my garage for 20 minutes to do a simple little project and by the time I come back inside I look as if someone sprayed me down with a hose!

(We won't even talk about what you're like after mowing the lawn, going for a run, or washing the car.... )

I don't know about all of you but I usually go for a 3 to 5 mile run every week day any time between 1030 and 1330. I guess you just have to make sure you are hydrated. I usually drive with the windows down, I will turn the air on for the wife and kids.

I figure I have it easy. My brothers in arms are wearing 50 to 100 lbs of gear depending on their mission in Iraq. It has been 95 to 115 over there, they are tough men and women.

Thanks to them we can sit here and talk about how we are handling this heat.

I do about 3.5 miles a day, and despite my best intentions, I usually end up going out at around high noon or shortly thereafter! It's really not that bad -- you just sweat a lot!

No doubt we have it better than our troops over in that he11-hole sandbox otherwise known as the Middle East -- thanks for the sacrafice, guys and gals!
