The same reason you see ads for the Turbonator on F150online. The ads are supplied by Google. Their program scans the text and picks up on key words, then displays ads based on the key words. How much do you want to bet there will be a 'Turbonator' ad over here now?
<-------------

(except I don't see the ads any more. Norton ad blocker finally figured out how to eliminate them and I'm not disabling the ad blocker for this site)

These people (ones that code for the ads) are starting to get pretty tricky with getting them to appear even with "pop-up blockers" and other "anti-ad" software enabled...though I guess the Google ads are not as intrusive as some are starting to get...I am still annoyed by them. I have not tried Norton's software for ad blocking...so I might need to try it sometime.

I am part of the crowd that still thinks the internet should be free...and that includes being free from unwanted solicitation.

If you don't like pop up ads you should be using Firefox instead of IE, Yahoo or MSN browsers. And as for the ones on the left Im pretty sure the owner (Steve) put them in there on purpose, and they aren't bothering me, popping up or anything, so who cares.

I just assumed they were there so when you decided to get a REAL truck you'd know where to look...

With the "AdWords" advertising program from Google, companies bid on certain keywords and if the page content of one of the sites running "AdSense" happens to match those keywords, the ads appear. Most likely, Honda has bid on the term "F-150" which appears frequently on this site. It must be somewhat effective, it caught your attention...and I have noticed it myself. It also tells me that they have bid quite a lot to be coming up as frequently as they have been...in the first advertising slot. My guess is that it is only temporary and that some of the more "normal" advertisers will start to appear when Honda decided to stop spending money on that term. But, in the short term, because we get paid a percentage of the clicked ads, the more Honda bids up the terms, the better for us.

Incidentally, what "cia" has done in the post works counter to Google's search algorithms. The likelihood of a "targeted" ad appearing with repetitive keywords with absolutely no meaning or context does not tend to bring up similar ads...

Damn...
I wanted to see if a Titan ad would pop up.

You know how these guys get when they see the word Titan.

Even if it's in Clash of the Titans.

Or remember the Titans.

They don't even like the Nashville Titans.

And, they probably never watched the movie TITANic. Which was a true Titan at the box office.

hehehehehe

Looks like the higher paying ads right now are focusing on the popup blocking aspect of the thread.

Actually, I recall Titan ads about a year ago...and a similar conversation over in the 04-05 forum...
