Ford's out gunning Hemi's? Say it isn't so!!
my best ET? or what i ran when i beat the 5.4's? i was runn crappy times alont with everyone else that night high humidity sux bawls... but my best time that night was a 16.42... which is about second fast then my avg. but my best time was a 15.1 at 82mph

My buttometer would tend to agree... Our 02 Screw "feels" qicker than my cousin's 01 Screw with the 5.4L and all the goodies he has on it. Mine even sounds better (At start-up and at idle) even though we both have the same flowmaster set-up.
But, when we were running out on I-10 in his truck between 85 - 95 MPH, his Screw sounds like it has a lot more lung capacity at speed- than mine does. But, off the line- I bet I'd hand his **** to him 0-60... I may be wrong; this is all based upon ASSumptions from the buttometer.\
I also find it hard to believe that the Hemi is losing 50% of it's power through the powertrain. 20% - 24% is normal loss from the flywheel to the contact patch; but 50%; they'd be the laughing stock of the industry.... Or, at least the latest victim of the bigger ir better philosophy..
5.4 vs 4.6; 345 Hemi vs 305 HP Endurance vs 300 HP Triton vs 300 HP Vortec.

the super car, 500 hp, ford gt runs the 5.4.
the awsome naturally aspirated 01 corbra r ran a 5.4
the lightning runs the 5.4
and the new shelby will run the 5.4
ever top speed and 1/4 mile record is set with the 4.6L not the 5.4L u can check that for a fact. the 5.4L has more torque cause its a longer stroke but a longer stroke takes longer to build and isnt a high rev motor... im sure u understand that. well its in the ford Gt and the cobra R which does great but its the 32V model and its got a low ratio rear end. because the engine doesnt have to work as hard as the 4.6L would to get the tires moving cause it has more power. but if u take a 4.6L and 5.4L with same rear end gearing and transmission the 4.6L will always win because the engine RPm builds faster understand what i am saying now?
the 5.4 has more torque because it has more cubic inches. my 460 has a shorter stroke than a 5.4 car to guess which one make more torque?
as for records, what records are you talking about? i know jpl has the quicket lightning and he runs a stroked 5.4, the 4.6 is in the mustang for packaging, mpg and cost. jr granitelli had one of the quickest mustang around a few years ago and it ran a 5.4.
my firebird has 383 (stoked 350) ang guess what it is faster with the 383 than it was with the 350.
any engine builder will tell you no replacement for displacement, the revving issue is a "theory" that was around 20 years ago when people were destroking motors. when is the last time you saw an add for a destroking kit to run faster, you dont, stroker kits are the big thing in the hot rod crowd. ford racing makes a kit to make a 4.6 into a 5.0 with a longer stroke.
believe what you want.

what is the word fx4man, can your dad make it do we do it another time. it been a tough week for me so it wont hurt my feelings if you cant go, but if you can it make make a crappy week end up good.
For torque, the 5.4L is awesome 350 lb ft. But, the arguement about there is no replacement for displacement, while true for us American Muscle lovers- forieign manufacturers (Mercedes 7 BMW For instance) makes insane amount os torque with engines smaller than ours...
Yes, you'll pay out the nose for them- but- there is a replacement for displacement- it's called technology...
We American's like BIG stuff, the bigger the better (Aside from women). Most would take a 454 over a 350, most would take a 350 over a 305 or a 302; metrically we'd take a 7.4L over a 5.7L, we'd take a 5.7L over a 5.0L or a 4.9L- so it's safe to say many would prefer a 5.4L over a 4.6L; so be it...
All I'm saying is both engines are good- there must be a reason why Ford doesn't see fit to slap the 5.4L in the Mustang, Crown Victoria, etc.. It was a monumental "F"-up on Ford's part not to put the 5.4L in the Marauder; just for the sake of torque; even if the HP numbers had remained at 260...
I have both now. A 5.4L Expedition, a 4.6L F-150, and I love 'em both. But, I honestly don't think this 5.4L in my Expy is any quicker than our old Expy with the 4.6L.
I'll have to do the math to figure out each trucks power to weight ratio, based upon factory numbers- I have no Dyno access to be certain...

CIA, ill agree with you on that, the german torque numbers are impressive for the size of their motors which is because of extremely high compression ratios. Germans however have a different theory when it comes to building motors.
But one point you missed is that none of those motors put out the torque of a 5.4.
The new 750(4.8) puts out 325lb/ft, if you do the math that puts it on par with the 4.7 liter toyota tundra motor for torque.
The new 5.4 puts out 365, wich is higher but do the numbers and they look pretty similar. for the size of there motors and the amount of torque they put out.

well i was supposed to have the Hemi for the weekend so i could race last night. when i realized it wasent going to happen, i left it in the shop, brother came and picked it up today, stopped at Bennagans on I-45 and it got stollen. had a set of callaway cubs and drivers in the back seat and about 150 cds and the keys to our shop so i had to go have all the keys re-keyed.
just think had the race happened, it would have been home in my garage today

I saw two dudes in a Silver Hemi Ram "scoping" my F-150 today. They sat there forever- I was in the store watching them and wrote down their license #. (For some reason, instead of pulling parallel to my truck, they sat caddy-corner, as if they were trying to "box" my truck in...
They never got out of the truck- so I don't know what the he** that was all about... After 10 minutes or so- they left.
I'd be mad that my CD's are gone- but I have "gap" insurance... Take it so I can get my black 2005 Crown Victoria LX Sport.
Than again- I'm probably not truly ready for that trauma...

Guys, my 5.4L 99 Lariat is a little slow in comparison to most of the larger truck series from other manufacturers. The 4x4 package kills it but around my area most 5.4L F150s are 4x4 and most 4.6L are not so there's the difference generally speaking. I will say and agree with some of you on the 5.4L torque. I swear I could pull a mountain with this thing. I was driving to the beach last year with my motorcycle in a double axle enclosed trailer. I ran 80MPH on the interstate for over 2 hours (obviously in Overdrive) and only had to come out of overdrive twice for briefly a few seconds. I easily accelerated at times from 70 or 75 back to 80 and stayed in overdrive. It really did well for a 260HP engine but I do have 3.73 LS rear not the stock 3.55 LS. But would a 180 thousandths gain in the rear make that much difference, naahhhhhh. The gas sucked though. It seems anything I pull, whether it be that trailer or a jetski, I get 10 MPG on highway. Not pulling anything I can at best get 17 but average 16. THAT SUCKS!!!!!!
My dad is a CHEVY man. He has a 96 Z71 / 350 still running strong with about 150K miles!!!! He has literally pulled a 28ft gooseneck trailer with a 8.5 ton dumptruck on it and drove it easily 45MPH or better. I can't believe the frame or suspension holds up to that crap but he uses it to pull stuff like that all of the time. As far as performance, I thinks its rated at 245HP and about 40 ft/lbs less in torque and we'll run side by side. He MPG averages are 15/20.
But tell you what, I'll pull 4 plugs from my LX 5.0 and nobody could have enough mods on their F150 to touch it. When it comes to performance, I sure as hell don't look at a truck to do it for me. But I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to pushing it. I've only managed to run my CBR to 140MPH before pulling out. I still had all of 6th gear to go ....

sup everyone...i love ford trucks and i was gonna buy a 02 ford reg stepside with the 5.4...then i went to dodge...for those guys who think that stock for stock a ford can out run a dodge hemi.. you need to line em up... now some of you guys probably can out run a hemi... with the wrong driver yes they are dogs.. they are slow to shifting to be easier on the tranny...the only performance mod i have is a flowmaster muffler...(a whoppin 0 hp lol) and the only close race ive had is against a 04 chevy equiped with the 6.0 H.O. (ss engine)... we ran 3 times.. the first time he beat me by about 3 ft.. then the second time we swapped lanes and i beat him by about 3 ft.. we noticed the road was really dirty so we moved up and it was mirror to mirror...i only had 2k miles on the engine and he had 20k (full throttle helps the engine break in better for those of u guys who cant believed i raced at 2k mi) and now with 6k on my truck it runs tons better... ive yet to race a lightning.. they are very quick hehe..i will get stomped lol... until i have the money to supercharge...oh yea i have a 05 reg cab shortbed 2wd...
