Any MS Access gurus in here?
We have a crappy database setup here for inventory and purchase orders, and a few other things. It was originally a temorary fix until we could get MAS 90 from our other office. Well, do to the powers that be, and us being the smaller shop we get the butt end of most things, and so we're still stuck with an unreliable difficult to use system.
Well, I need to access it from time to time from my computer, which until last week has not been a problem. I'll be honest here, and say I really know very, very little about the specifics of Access, and have never created a database, and until this one was created hadn't used it in many years...
Okay, so when it was working properly I would have to login to the database and all was well. Then one day for reasons unknown I open the database, but get a message saying I don't have permission. So, I go to the computer that has the database, and reset my permission for the database, and the forms, etc that I'm trying to use. Now, I don't have to login to the database, and I get a message saying I don't have permission for that form...
What am I over looking? Why do I no longer get the login screen? This is happening for the other two people/PC's that are trying to use it. At this point the computer that has the database is at an empty desk, so whoever needs it can go up and use it, just can't access it from our PC's anymore...
any ideas?

I'm assuming at least limited access to the shared folder, otherwise I wouldn't be able to view the folder and open the file, right? I tried to copy the database to another PC, but that didn't change anything...
If you copy the db file to your computer and open it does it run correctly?
Sounds to me like it is a rights issue from the share but if you copied it to another computer and ran it locally that means that likely isn't the problem.

My guess is ODBC doesn't come into play. SOunds like the database is just shared out and they are just double clicking on the database itself to launch.
Just doesn't make sense that locally it works but via the network it doesn't unless share permissions are set wrong. Yet once you copy it to another computer if the sharing was the problem it should then work correctly.
Odd.....must be missing something...
PcAnywhere anyone?

What version of Access are you using? 97, 2000, XP, 2003?
Sounds like someone setup permissions using Access security, so there is a workgroup file on the machine that has the database. That workgroup file contains all of the security settings. When you try to connect to the database from your other computer, Access is not set to use the workgroup file on the database computer. There are a couple of ways around that. Try to find a file with a .mdw extension on the database computer. The default one is called system.mdw. If someone setup security on the database, they should have created a workgroup file with a new name.
Let me know if you can find it and I'll tell you how to connect to it and use it.
