What's the deal with these Push Pull or Drag discounts dealers advertise? There is a major deal around here claiming $3500 for anything you can push pull or drag in. I figured this was for new cars only but this counts towards pre-owned vehicles. What's the catch? Certainly I can't go buy a $6000 car and only pay $2500 cause I brought em a Contour with a cracked head.
Because buying a vehicle, new or used is difficult enough to figure out.
Throwing a trade in the mix serves to muddy the water even more. You don't know what you paid or what the trade was.
If you have a contour with a cracked head you will get $300 trade in.
If they tell you they gave you $3500 trade in,
then you paid $3200 more on whatever it is you bought new/used, than you could have paid.
There is no free lunch.
The dealer will make money, he has to just like you do at your job.
If he can get you to trade with him, he will make more money than he would on a straight sale. That's just the way it is.
If he has to tell you he gave you you $3500 trade-in then you think that you won something and he goes to Cancun on vacation. Everybodys happy.

I worked with a guy that had a used lot. He offered on the lot financing.
He sold a car to a guy for $7500 with $400 cash down.
Later found out the the bank account was closed, fake IDs, the whole deal.

Yeah, the Civic we recently bought was from a Kia dealer guaranteeing $3,000 for whatever we could push, pull or drag onto the lot.
We got a 2002 Civic (used), and we got it for $11,900.00. Kelly Blue book said:

All they really did was list the Car for $14,900, then give us the $3,000 off, then the additional $500.00 we put down, then rolled in TT&L plus financing.
Car companies aren't in the business of giving away cars....
What I want someone to explain to me, is what's the deal about: Buy a new 2005 Dodge Ram for $24,988 and take home a Dodge Neon free!
Buy a New Nissan Titan, and take home a new Nissan Altima free!
Buy a new F-150, and take home a new Ford Focus, Free!
Are they doing these deals in your area?

Don't get me wrong, I understand all this. I just wanted some more info to convince the lunatic woman who owns the car I killed. I think I might try and replace the cylinder head myself but we'll see. I just wish I had some way to get it 30 miles back to my garage instead of a parking lot.

It would not be wise or prudent to attempt to remove/ replace heads on a vehicle in a parking lot 30 miles from your garage. Remember that your time is worth something also. If you typically earn $200 per day and it takes you 3 days to fix the car because it's 30 miles away in a parking lot, then you would be foolish to not spend the $40 to rent a car dolly and bring it to your garage where you can fix it in 2 days.
Repairing a car like that in a parking lot is not an economically sound decision.
