Anyone in Northerrn NJ or NYC?

I'm going to be in East Rutherford for work next week (Sun-Fri) and will be taking my 14 year old daughter. We are staying near the Meadowlands plaza so any tips about how to catch the train into Manhattan and/or sightseeing would be much appreciated. While I would like to catch the Dana Fuchs Band while I'm in the area, the night spots will have to wait for another trip. My daughter likes sports and just about anything else, so historical sights, entertainment etc., are all good, any good food spots would be great. Any drag strips with street nights in the area?

If you are in town early and want a really good breakfast, I can't recommend Sarabeth's enough. And get some croissants with whatever you're having and make sure to get the Orange Apricot Marmalade. After having this you will want to order a few jars of it to take home. It's unbelievably good.

The one I always go to is on the Upper West Side, on Amsterdam and 80th St.

There are two others, one on Madison and 92nd, and one at the Whitney.

Make sure you've got some time, because it's always crowded.

Just fine the nearest train station and it will get you right into Grand Central. From there you can either walk or get a cab. Historical sights?? you have to go to ground zero. It's amazing to see everything there from people all over the world. Although it is a very sad sight to see, its one of the most uplifting as well, to see how the world can actually come together to show there love and support. Get down to the water and take a tour on the Intrepid. Its an old aircraft carrier that has a bunch of planes on it and tons of history. Take the circle line around manahattan and the Statue of Liberty. Its a pretty cool ferry ride with some cool sights. Make sure you take your daughter to the MTV building. She may catch a glimps of someone famous. Plus if shes into MTV, what teenager isnt? she can go while there taping TRL. Look for the naked cowboy. He wears tight white shorts, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat and walks around playing guitar. hes pretty good, and if you stick a dolloar in his boot you can take your picture with him. I read an article about him, and hes a millionaire from doing this. ESPNZone is so..so.. IMO, its way to loud, the food sucks and your daughter will not be impressed. I say do as much as you can. Try to get to China town, now thats a fun place to be. I love NY and try ro get back there as much as possible. Have fun

I agree with BREWDUDE with the exception of ESPNZone(I love it, games, food, etc) You can also take the Ferry Ride(free) to Staten Island to get a good look at "downtown" NYC. The ride at night is awsome to see all of the lights of the city. Ground Zero was an amazing place.......the foot prints of the building are huge.....oh also, check out the Empire State Building and Trump Towers. I don't know how many days you have but we did allot in 4 days there. It was really cool to see the history there. One more thing. I always thought the "locals" would be a bunch of A$$'s, but as it turns out they were some of the nicest people I have ever meet....the tourist were the A$$'s.

Its unfortunate that a lot of people have that misconception about New Yorkers. I'm glad you went with an open mind and found that to be wrong. Like I said, I love NY. Although I didnt grow up in the city, I was close enough to go there whenever I wanted. The year I graduated High School was awesome. We went to the city alot.Going to the clubs in the Bronx was awesome. Now i'm in S. Jersey and although its nice here, the summer tourists are rude A-Holes
