I'm so glad that I have online access to all my accounts. I can monitor my card activity any time. I was able to report some thief using my card number within 24 hours a couple years ago. I had rented a U-Haul trailer and he got my info off the triplicate copies that the store threw in the dumpster.
Anyways, I typically check all my card balances and activity 2-3 times a week. I'll be checking my MC balances daily for the next few days.

I was an ID Theft victim years ago, before it became popular. I have all my "guards" still in place. No one can access my credit report without a major ordeal. I even had a warning put on my drivers license thru Sacramento. It took me years to get everything straightened out, but if it happens again, I know what to do. I do the online access to and constantly check my statements.
Recently a friend of mine got his card number stolen either from an employee at a hotel he stayed at or off Travelocity or Hotels.com.

That's why it's good to have your cards very close to or maxed out. It's a fraud prevention technique...

the last time I saw my mastercard was a few years ago when I chopped it up into teeny tiny pieces and mailed it back to them with a couple of suggestions regarding what they should do with it....

Exactly why I only have one card (Figures, it's a M.C.) with a limit of $500.

Too much fraud happening.

At least our liability is only $50. Although in a case like this, I want to see them try to collect that $50. Ain't going to happen.

I use my MC all the time.
Two weeks ago there was a $1600 camera store purchase and a $700 Music store purchase both in NJ. Based on my history Red flags went up and MC called me within the hour. They were fraudulent charges.

They closed the card and reissued. Isigned a notorized letter that they weren't mine. No Problem.

Last year I went out locally and made two big purchases on the card $3200 and $1100 within an hour or so. I was trying tofigure out how to justify to my wife when I got home.

She already knew about them. As soon as the second one hit they called my house to inquire. She knew I was shopping for a couple of big ticket items but, I didn't know she'd find out to the penny before I even got a chance to work my charm on her.

Anyway,I have been pleased that MC is on top of the fraud as well as it is.

I've had thishappen three times nowover the last 10 years and never paid any of it. No mention was made of a $50 liability.
