iPod Question

My in-law has one and I end up having to download songs for her from iTunes because she doesn't have broadband. Ok, that's all fine but is there a way to drop mp3 files onto the iPod and have it play those or will it only play m4p files you get from iTunes? I haven't tried to drag any mp3's over to the folder on the iPod when it's connected yet. Will it play regular mp3's?

Also, if it won't play mp3's, is there a free converter to convert mp3's to m4p's?

AFAIK, the iPod will play any song that gets accepted into iTunes. So, you need put her songs into iTunes to get them to go onto the iPod.
