Any napster users in here? (itunes too?)

I bought an album from napster.
I want to burn the tracks onto a mp3/wma CD rather than an audio CD (which you cant do within napster as far as I know?)
How do I do it? I tried to use Nero to burn the tracks but my HU displays "PROTECT" when I insert the CD.

Thanks.

I use Napster and Nero too, and I haven't been able to figure out how to burn 'em to MP3 either. Pisses me off when I've paid for some of these songs and it still says "PROTECT" whenever I try to burn 'em. WTF? I ain't out to pirate the world or anything, but damn, I bought these tracks, why can't I put them to MP3 to listen to in my truck?

Crap, not looking good so far.

I was hoping there was something I was doing wrong :\
Besides wasting my money anyway. $9.95 a month for the service plus the money I spend on the CDs, which arent always cheaper than going to a store and I cant do what I want with em?
Might have to go back to the old ways, although I really like being able to listen to the entire songs without buying. Dont know if thats worth $9.95 a mo though.

Yeah, I know. But when you burn that CD, the file comes up as protected when you try to play it in the truck...

Can you burn mp3 CDs with windows media player? Meaning, can you fit more than 20 songs on a CD?

Burning regular audio CDs with Napster isn't a big deal, it's putting them to MP3 that's the hard part. I haven't been able to burn them to MP3 using Windows Media Player either. I haven't tried copying the music as data files to CD though, I'm gonna give that a shot.

yes, in the burn tab, in the right panel, select data cd in the drop down list and then burn it.

you should see something like: CD Drive (H:) - Audio CD
I think thats default. Just change it to data and you should be good to go.

Well, I went to Windoze Media Player, burn, then set it to make a data disc. I burned 10 songs out of my Napster library that I paid for, took it out to the truck and it says "BAD DISC." I shot an E-mail to Napster asking what's going on, so I guess I'll sit tight and wait for a reply from them.

Well, if I mouse over the files in WMP, it'll pop up a little window showing the details of the track and towards the bottom of that little window, it's says "Protected: Yes" but I can still burn that to a normal audio CD without any drama. Trying to do it as an MP3 is giving me fits though. I bought my MP3 player on the assumption that I could use it to listen to all this music I got downloaded (about 2-300 songs, if not more) without having to make a bunch of regular music CDs.

Same here, that was a major reason I upgraded to this head unit.

Although, I just got an MP3 player so I might go that route (can store way more songs on there than a mp3 CD).

I would feel much better if I could get the CDs to work though, less money and time I have to spend getting the MP3 player to work :\ Its about $40 to get the adapter for the AUX input, plus I have to figure out a way to get it all wired up. Bleh. Freakin copyright protection!!!

Copyright protection is one thing, that I don't mind so much. What really tweaks me is that I (or we) paid for these damn songs, and for whatever reason, they're saying we can't cut 'em into MP3s?? On a positive note, with Nero I'm at least able to take my hard copy audio CDs, rip 'em to my hard drive then turn them into MP3 CDs so I don't have to tote all my hard copy CDs around with me.

Oh and, anybody still reading this thread that is interested in a program that will lookup and rewrite all your IDV3 tags, check out http://www.musicbrainz.org/

Works great, and its free! If you want to display the names of the songs/artists/albums while they are playing but dont feel like editing all your mp3s, get this program
