Road Trippin

Hey, So I have to drive 8 hours by myself Saturday as I go from Salt Lake to Denver. Any suggestions on how to pass the time? Sure I'll bring music but what else can I do. Shoot, I dont know if this ride has a CD-Player. Ahhh.. If this old pontiac breaks down, I have even more to worry bout.

Hmmm. Looking at the Ebay, photo, I dont know if it has any stereo

Well, if it breaks down, music or passing time will be irrelevant.

If your gonna be by yourself, it's tough to find things to do. If possible, I'd find a co-pilot.

The problem is I'm flying out there. My best bud who is setting me up with the buddy pass might come along cause he can fly for free but I dont know yet. He doesnt know if the woman will let him go for the day. Also, he works until 1am Sat morning at the flight is at 9am.

Imagine that *****.

Well, if you can get past security (the woman), maybe your bro can see about getting off early. I'm sure you have already thought of that, but, eh, I had to say it.

I'd say to see if you could get a refund for the plane tickets. If so then, I would rent a car hauler from U-haul or some where. and drive there, load it on the trailer, then pull it back home.
Pluses:
  1. Probably cheaper
  2. Could take a couple people along if you wanted
  3. More likely to find atleast a partner to travel with you because it won't cost them anything besides time and eats.
  4. You know your truck would most likely make the trip trouble free. (peace of mind)

Negatives
  1. A lot of time on the road. (but you can let your buddy drive too!)

If you left at 1 AM then you could be back home with the car by around 6:30 PM or so the same day. Thats with adding an hour and a 1/2 for pit stops and loading the car.

Yea I've bought a few of those "get to fix 'em up" classics and had to travel some distances to get them a time or two....

Edited to add:
Hey UrbanCowboy, I know it was a mechanic that had it, so you would assume it runs decent, but let me remind you of an old saying... (The mechanics car never runs.) You don't know this car and thats a long way to drive it not knowing anything about the condition of the belts, hoses, brakes, steering componets, etc, etc.! The more I think about it the more that I don't think that I would drive it home, myself anyway.

Heck, I enjoy road trips. In the last couple years I've taken a few. My last long trip was from Orlando to Canon City, CO and back. I went out there to meet and work with another tree climber for a week. 2000 miles each way and the worst part was Kansas. 435 miles of corn fields. About 300 miles across the state, the road takes a slight bend to the right (there's an exit with a truck stop at that point as well). Another 50 miles and the road bends back to the left. And there is NOTHING on the radio! For over 100 miles I was only able to pull in one FM station, and that was a preacher man giving a sermon.

Anyways, road trips are relaxing for me. Cruise control, good tunes, time to let my mind wander out on it's own for a bit, life is good!

LOL
Definatly if you can spare to add about 3 hours to a trip, it's worth the time to drop into Oklahoma and go around Kansas as much as possiable. Same goes for Iowa. Drop a few miles into Northern Missouri and go around it.

Sounds great. I love a road trip.

Last year, I drove from Houston to Calgary and back by myself in one of our company Peterbilts.
Just load up every day with coffee, a few bags of beef jerky, find an oldies station and set the cruise control to 70.
It was the most peaceful 2 weeks I had all year. :o

PSS-MAG, I appreciate the comments. The thing is, though, that I can fly to Utah for $23 dollars. I can't even rent a hauler for that amount. I too, don't mind driving a distance alone. In fact, I do have a lot of things to think about these days. Something like 4 hours (my typical long drive to Grand Junction, CO) no problem, but when I started thinking about 8 Hours, I was like Woah.

Anyway, this guy isn't just a mechanic. He fixes cars and re-sells them. He always works with F-Body vehicles all the time. I'm going to keep naively optimistic. He doesn’t anticipate any problems except maybe a flat tire but he’s going to give me a spare to take. I’ll be buying some Wallymart tools before I depart just in case. Buyer Beware, I know.

Should get a CB, when I get bored on road trips, I turn it on, especially in cities and construction areas, it gets pretty funny sometimes.

Easy for him to say he's not the one that is 8 hours from home! LOL
Just kidding you.

Yea for that price I'd risk it too. You also couldn't put the gas in your truck for one way for that either. Worse case scenario you have to call a buddy with a truck and trailer to come get you and then you get home on Sunday. Just incase have somebody already in mind and make sure to take thier phone number with you.... Atleast for me it's hard to think sometimes when I'm frustrated.

PSS-Mag. I have a hookup with the airline (Frontier). I'll bring a lot of junk with me. CDs, CD player, Camera just in case, Fully charged phone, maps, etc. I should be set. Like I said, I'll buy some cheap tools just incase I get stranded in the middle of no where.

Sounds like you should be set then...

One more thing that is very, very, very important with these cars....
Enjoy the ride!

I forgot to go look for that console for it for you, I've got to take my daughter to her ball game now, I'll look when I get home.
