I've been going back and forth myself about the Mustang GT or the F-150 for the past 6 months. I finally decided that it is such a seller's market on the GT's right now that I just went ahead an ordered a new F-150 last week.

There are a few out there, but for the most part you have to be willing to lube with Vaseline, bend over, and grab your ankles when dealing for the GT's right now, and then grovel at your dealer's feet for six months in the hopes your car actually comes in!

Just wasn't for me -- I bought my F-150 now and will get the Mustang in a few years when the "supply and demand" situation has fallen back into the buyer's favor! Too many little boys with candy money burning a hole in their pocket out looking for a GT right now!

Brew,
Don't do it, man! If you really want a new Mustang, wait it out until you can afford the Shelby.

Quick story...I drove a couple of Mustangs when I got out of college, including the GT. Then in the fall of '95, I heard that Ford was going to release a Corba with the 305hp 4.6...big improvement over the then GT. Anyway, I waited and went with the Cobra...and I couldn't have been happier.

As far as dealer mark-up goes, you bet. However, if you really want a Shelby and can find an honest dealer (yes, there are some out there), then you can get a better deal. For example, I went to my dealer 6 months before the '96 Cobra came out. Told him the colors I wanted (black on black) and said I'd give him a small deposit now if he agreed IN WRITING to sell me the car at MSRP.

He held up his end of the deal. The day my car showed up, there were three other Cobras on the carrier. Seven guys were in the showroom bidding on them...one was a Mystic Cobra that went for $7000 over MSRP. Crazy...I wrote out the check and left the dealership paying what I had agreed to pay.

Given that the Shelby won't be available for quite awhile, you'd have more time to save $$$...I think it'll be worth it.

Besides...do you really want to part with your F150 so soon?

Just my 2 cents...

Paul

I keep thinking about doing that myself. I would love to have a new GT. I don't "need" the truck, I just had to have something 4wd for Alaska winters. Now I'm returning to the lower 48 but where we're moving it snows too and my hubby is telling me I don't want a Mustang, I want something with 4wd or All-wd for winter driving. Just who does he think he is telling me what I want??

BREW, its a nice looking car but its a tough choice. Let us know what you decide!

'05 MY ordering is done as far as I know, and Ford's already like 15 or 20,000 units deep for '06 orders. I want a new GT too, but practically I gotta wait until I get close to getting my truck paid off.

D-plan for that car would be around $500 or so below invoice, rough guestimate.

Dont go test drive it! I went and test drove a L and couldnt sleep that night. I found one within a month at a price I liked. I went from driving a ext cab 4.2 L to a single cab 5.4L supercharged. Ive never reget it either.

Except for that one time when I had to break up with gf so I could work and make the monthly payment.

Let me put it this way...

I have an 2004 Mustang GT... 4.6L, V8, 5-speed manual transmission (oh, hell yeah, it's fun!), Dark Charcoal leather, Dark Shadow Gray paint... but Magnaflow not Bassani exhaust. I'm sure you already knew all that...

So, anyway... every great once in a while I have these flashbacks/premonitions/dreams of some sort... I see myself driving a black F150. It's a nice truck, and I apparently enjoy driving and caring for it, but these "episodes" never last long. When it first started happening I thought maybe this means I'll be getting a new truck too, but I finally confided in a good friend who said, no. I wouldn't be getting a new truck. I once "had" a truck. A black '03 F150, regular cab, flareside, 4.6L auto. Nice truck, he said. But I have no tangible memory of the affore mentioned truck... I'm just glad my Mustang's waiting for me in the garage when I need her!

Hmmmm..what to do...at this point, price is not really an issue since I get D plan. Im still not sure the car is still available. I need to make a call here soon to find out. I just dont want to regret it. Wether I get it or not.

Im sure the Cobra will be out of my price range, since I would have to have 2 vehicles. I would never use the Cobra as my daily driver.

I say, "go for it, and let me take your truck".

No, but seriously. I would wait a lil while longer. You can ALWAYS get a mustang at pretty much anytime. They are everywhere.

But, it will be more of a pain to get a Blazing Yellow, BREWDUDE, FX4, Supercab, 5.4 truck.

I see a truck like yours and think......BREWDUDE.

IMHO, while the Cobra is by all means SWEET, and a great performer... it's over kill for a daily driver... It will rarely "use" it's full potential... not to say I wouldn't take one if I had the chance... I just can't see saving up for a more expensive (though, better performer) version of an already cool car... Sorry, I don't even consider the V6 when thinking/considering a Mustang...

N/M, I can't read...

It depends where you life and what you do. I gave up my 2000 Roush Stage 2 Convertible Mustang to get my F150 SCrew because I need a good 4wd truck more so than a play vehicle so that came into my reasoning.

Well, my decision has been made.

Well actually its been made for me. The GT I was looking at was sold. I guess the guy has been waiting over 6 months for the car and he's not giving it up. They did say I can place an order for an 06 GT and I would be first on the list. I decided im not gonna order one. Could you imagine...I was a friggen wreck waiting for this truck when I ordered it and it only took about 8 weeks. I couldnt deal with a 6 month wait. I would end up in the phsyc ward at the local hospital. So I made the appointment to get my truck back to the shop and get the few issues I have taken care of. Once its fixed and back to normal, im sure I will love it all over again and proceed with my list of mods. I guess my next big decision is going to be to level it or go with the 3" Skyjacker? Any thoughts or ideas?

WHEW..I feel better now. I couldnt sleep at all last night.

It's a possibility, have to sweet talk (or something ) the old man but I could probably talk him into it. I'm just really torn...I love my truck and am not sure I want to get rid of it. The decision will probably be made in a year or so when we get our house and I start working, commuting in the truck is going to drain the old pocketbook

BREW, sorry about the car but sounds like you are relieved you don't have to make the decision right now!
