I would like to see the apple one on a high speed video camera. You can see the entry wound being blown back out as the bullet is leaving? Why is that? I mean I know why.. but how does it get sucked back in?

Magic. Pure, simple Magic.
(That's pretty much the answer for anything too complex for me to understand.)

I tried several times to get a picture of the 5" gun firing off our flight deck aboard my destroyer, and all I ever got was the orange ball of flame, the huge cloud of smoke, and a case of temporary (hah!) deafness. Those old Kodak 126 Instamatics weren't meant for high speed stuff.
Later on, I got educated in photography somewhat. The apple-shot picture was most likely shot in total darkness with a wide-open shutter and a flash unit acting as the shutter. I did a similar thing with my handgun in my basement, using only a smidgen of powder, enough to drive the bullet from the barrel. It was a cool picture, with the bullet only an inch out of the muzzle.
All those pictures you posted were extremely interesting. Thanks for sharing.

tball May 26, 2005 09:22 AM

Close but no cigar.... that would be the Proving Grounds Yuma AZ, or YPG as known in gov terms

If you quote my last post, and see what I typed, you'll see the [img] tags and can see how I posted that pic.
