dental bridges: Help.

Went to the $$ dentist today, was told I need a dental bridge, but first Have to extract a tooth.. cavity is to big to fill and what filling is left is holding the tback upper moaler, left side togethier

I'm heasating here, the ideal of pulling the tooth even thow it can not be saved is not appealing, would steping up my brushing and fossing serve as a preventive measure?, Tooth is not abassed and I realize this could possably happen, I'm in some discomfort but I can live with it, bridge work, I'm not so sure.

My gums are heathy and I'm conceraned that the crue for bad tooth may be worse than living the tooth as is.

Are Bridges worth it in the long run and extra up keep is needed, I'm not just going to the pull the tooth a leave it as is, worried abought the alignment of the rest of my teeth, which are ok.

Don't get a Bridge go for the implant .. I know the bridge may sound a whole lot cheaper right now but trust me go with implant it will be stronger than your best tooth in no time A bridge will drive u nutts

If you trust your dentist have the tooth pulled it may save the ones on each side in the long run
I had one of my front ones done and kept falling asleep in the chair dentist was really getting pissed off at me something about not being able to work while i was snoring shrug

question abought the implant. How do they go in, is a hole cut in your gum, than the implant put in place of the old tooth-root? and than the gum sowin up?
First time in 12 years I been to the dentist, and that's all my falt, but no cavity's, accept for the tooth in limbo. Thanks for your input.

If the molar in front of the bad one is still in good shape, I would just have it pulled. I had both of my furtherest back molars on the top pulled 5 years ago, and don't miss them a bit.

That's just my opinion...I could be wrong!

Cyclone Vampire you said:

I had put the dentist off for about 2yrs, knowing I had to have a tooth pulled. My back wisdom tooth had come in and cracked my back molar in front of it. Which in turn created a cavity that eventually eroded the whole top half of the tooth. I wasnt too painful, it would flair up from time to time.
Well I finally had to get them both pulled just 2weeks ago. Believe me I wasnt too thrilled going to the oral surgeon. I wanted to be put to sleep and they talked me out of it, kept saying I wont feel anything with just novacain.
We'll they were right on. My appointment was at 8:45 in the morning. They numbed me up and pulled both teeth and I was back in my truck at 9:10. I couldnt believe it. They gave me a prescription for some percacets. I had it filled and only ended up taking two of them. Now I have a full bottle for "fun".
Anyway, dont hesitate getting it pulled, it will only get worse, cant get any better.
Cant help you on the bridges. I will eventually need one on the other side though.

I suspected I'd need bridge work before I went to the dentist.
After he looked inside, I asked.

He said, "Yep, Golden Gate bridge".
I said, "Golden Gate bridge, what does that mean?".

He said, "Well, to you, size
and to me, the Gold part.
"

Yes they just put a pin into the bone like the original tooth was then they fasten the Falsie tooth to the pin mine was very front upper tooth took a aHockey puck to the mouth when i was 18 .. shattered the tooth 45 now and the implant has never needed any work what so ever feels the same as other teeth but when i get my teeth clean i always ask them not to polish the inside of the falsie tooth

But either way this is the worst part of the whole process they need a mold of your teeth and jaw so they fill a tin tray with plaster and stick it in your mouth talk about wanting to Gag for all its worth yeah its bad they say if u need to puke hold up your hand and they will pull it out But that would mean they have to try again wouldn't it .. yeah right tough it out the first time dude

Just for reference the whole implant process takes close to 2 years so they can heal right.
