Star Wars question...

I've never been a huge Star Wars fan, but have always been a little intrigued... I'd be interested in renting the old ones to watch, and I'll be renting this latest one when it comes out on DVD... Actually I should probably rent the old "touched up" versions, huh?

Well, anyway, my question... Everyone keeps talking about how this is the end of Star Wars. I was always under the impression there were to be 9 movies in all. Why they started with number 4 is another question...

So, what can you Star Wars "Trekkies" tell me...?

thanks...

I heard that when George Lucas wrote the original screenplay, it turned out so long that it got broken up into 9 parts.
Why he started with Episode 4, I don't know.
I did hear a rumour that he was going to convert them all into 3D next.
I don't think the Star Wars franchise will be over till Lucas dies. He will always be enhancing them somehow because its a guaranteed money maker however cheesy they are.

I don't know, but I can tell you this- starting off with your FIRST movie being dubbed, Episode IV, was a master stroke of sales genius.

Star Wars was a hit- arguably one of the top sellers in theatrical history, especially if you adjust ticket sales to today's prices. Honestly, I don't think George had anything in mind for Episode 1 - 3, or 7 - 9; but in making Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi Episodes IV, V & VI, and by their being hits, guaranteed him that if he ever chose to do Episode 1 - 3 (Guaranteed hits) or 7 - 9 (Maybe, but risky since the main bad-guy characters Darth Vader and the Emperor are both dead)- they would be moderately successful s well..

Now that Episode I - III are nailed down, that might make people wonder- what happened now that Luke & Leia both have Jedi blood in them now? Are the Sith Lords truly dead? If it's logical to assume the Jedi headed for the far corners, it's not impossible to believe that a few Sith Lords are off in some corner, plotting to make a come back.

Regardless of what George comes up with, he'll never top IV, V & VI; but he has become hella rich along the way... For who else would so many wait & wonder for nearly 30 years to get more pieces to a puzzle? What other movie franchise has had idiots laying in tents out side the theater weeks in advance, to see a movie?

There is power- in the Force!

Back when I was a kid and the original Trilogy was out, I always heard that it was a 9 part series; however, Lucas says now Star Wars was always planned to be a 6 part series.

If you want to know what happens to Luke, Lea, and Han, you'll have to read the books...

Read the book is an option for me. However, I always thought there were more than one book. But I was just talking to a friend who says no, there was one book, and the movies were different chapters of the book...

I may need to hunt down this book, if it really is just one book... I'm about done with Dean Koontz's latest anyway...

/\/\ Start with Star Wars, then do Empire, and Jedi, then Episode I, and II and go to the movie on Saturday or Sunday. That way you will have seen them the way they were released. They are fairly entertaining, but a little on the low tech side, compared to Sci-fi movies today.. (Chronicles of Rid****, as an example)

Star Wars starts out at a nice pace, then it gets a little flat, then it builds and builds. Empire is good from A to Z, and Jedi has a nice pace all the way through; but I thought the Jabba sequence was a bit long in the tooth. Seeign a scantily clad Leia is the only thing that helped me through it..

After this one comes out on DVD, you can watch Episode I - VI and it'll all fall into place- except for a few mis-steps said in the later episodes that most will not notice, that doesn't truly coincide with how the Episodes I - III are laid out.

It is a good tie in; but not perfect, which is proof to me that there was never an original plan for Episodes I - III. Be that as it may- I enjoy them anyway, and I won't ruin it for you by identifying inconsistencies in the story line.

So, is it really just one book that sparked all the movies?

I'd like to believe Geroge had this story already planned out, but I'm not so sure... I believe he had ESB planned, but not RotJ.. I'd bet my car he didn't have EI, EII & EIII laid out in his mind in 1977... But, he can say anything today....

But, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and say he did.... But, banking on sequels is not a good way to launch a franchise, especially when sequels historically don't do as well as the original- hence the word "TRilogy" so it doesn't use the near pornographic movie term...

Sequel...

I'll see you at the theater on Saturday... I'm not even going to try on Thursday or Friday... I have friends going to the Midnight show Wed night/Thursday morning~ I guess my love for Star Wars has limits.... I've read the book so there won't be many surprises- I will just make it a point not to look at this website after Wednesday- the book was 'based" upon Lucas' screenplay; I think I read the cliff-notes version.

Your friend is wrong. Each movie is a book, and their are multiple other books, too.

Here is a list of Star Wars books Scroll down the left side to see all of them.

I think George had an outline of what he wanted to do, and filled in the specifics later. George is great at surprising the audience, so I can't wait to see what Revenge of the Sith will deliver - after all who saw, "I am your father" coming in The Empire Strikes Back?

I would really love to see them do a set of movies based on the Admiral Thrawn story arc.

I hate the new movies, and after getting suckered into watching episodes I and II, I will not watch III.

I saw an interview with Lucas...he said that this was the last movie in the series for him. That doesn't mean that he won't let others do them...he allows others to write the books now, but I'm pretty sure he has a lot of input into them.

It will be interesting to see if there is another trilogy. Like a lot of you, I also heard that it was a nine part series when I was a kid. Still, I doubt he'll direct or produce them.

Lucas is suppose to do a live action TV show, and a cartoon for the period between III and IV.
