My Doom 3 for Xbox review

I bought Doom 3 for Xbox the other day. The graphics are great and gameplay is nice, but man this thing gives me the creeps! A few things that bug me about the game are it appears as though you get a max of 4 different weapons and no chance of finding more and upgrading later in the game like most games do....and I see no sniper type weapon. What fun it there with no sniper rifle? The other thing is there's no infrared vision or anything like that. Many times the enemy (demons and zombies) come at you from total darkness and you can't use your flashlight and weapon at the same time. That sucks.

As far as giving me the creeps...it's the sounds, music and characters. Very creepy...gives me the ******. Lots of blood splatter too when you get shot or shoot other things. There's also blood splattered throughout the maps from previous characters having been killed as part of the story.

If you like this type of stuff, it's great. I think I'd be much happier with Splinter Cell Chaos Theory though. Maybe I'll get that later on sale or something.

I bought Doom 3 on PC when it came out; even with all the effects turned off, because my system sucks, it's pretty damn creepy. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I know one part I got to, the room was well lit. Then all of a sudden, it went pitch black, and a lighted path with bloody footsteps and a woman's voice saying "Follow me..." came up. Scared the beejesus out of me. I know when I first got it, I figured I'd be a badass and play it in the dark after midnight with the volume turned up.

Yeah, right.

On a side note though, I got Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, it's pretty damn sweet too.

I was on my way over the top of my chair when that happened. I got optical output going to my stereo and 6.1 surround. The game sounds really good. Its alot better if all lights are off. The game is pretty much pull out the flashlight, find bad guy, and then pull out gun and shoot him. You have to do that about 10,000 times. Doom 3 is good, but fallshort of being as good as the old versions. Maybe you haven't got far enough for the guns. Have you got the soul cube yet? Freaken online play on Doom 3 for Pc sucks... I got Swat 4 right now. That game is pretty cool. In one mission you have to go to a serial killer house and serve an arrest warrant. Its kinda like some Silence of the lambs type mission. Everytime you restart the mission he respawns in different part of the house. Also they are coming out with a Doom 3 movie and the Rock is supposedly playing Sarge. Hopefully it will be better that the Resident Evil movies. I'm thinking about getting that Area 51 game. Don't know if it will be any good though.

I've been thinking about getting this game myself... I saw somewhere though that the Limited Edition (+$10) included Doom & Doom II. If so, I will definately be looking to get it... I got the Limited Edition Halo 2, and couldn't see what was so great. It came in a tin and had a DVD "The Making of..." or something... I only got it 'cause Wally's screwed up the price and was selling it for the same as the regular one...

I like these kind of games... I would much rather go on a mission, where there's actually an objective, and you can watch the story play out, and find secrets etc., than to just go online and shoot other people...

Speaking of scare the fecal matter from you... I used to play Silent Hill on PS1 late at night with the lights out. There were these little child looking ghost things that would walk slowly out of the dark, then run at you. I can't remember how many times I had too wipe, after picking myself up off the floor behind my chair. I've got SH 2 for Xbox now, but haven't got into it much. I see there's now SH3 and SH4, so may evenutally pick them up.

If you get Area 51 let us know what you think... It looks interesting...

When Half Life 2 first came out, I read a review that said, "...and the lighting is amazing (Im looking at you in the dark with a flashlight Doom 3)" I thought that was great.

Im with you on it being creppy, I got it for PC and it was out there. Some of the parts **** me of though, and Im always running out of ammo. What happened to the good old days of Doon I and II when ammo was everywhere? I never beat it, I got tired of it after a few hours, maybe Ill go back and try it again.

If you type IDclip or any of the old doom codes you get a nice little message that says nice try. Half Life 2 the graphic on it are crazy. Far Cry was another good game. The water in that game looks perfect.

The flashlight thing in Doom 3 irritates me. Come on, a high tech space Marine assigned to Mars hundreds of years in the future doesn't have a weapon mounted light, but special forces nowadays do? I used a mod I got off Gamespot to add a flashlight to the machine gun and shotgun.

Not Doom related but...

Based on the reviews I got the original Splinter Cell and Im loving it so far. I don't get much time cause the kid is on all the time but I'm loving it so far.

I only got about 1/4 of the way through Resident Evil (first one) and got busy but that game has given me the ******* a couple of times already.

No late nights for that game. How goofy is it when a grown man jumps at a video game. I got my wife to sit with me so I could show her this great part but it was just a cover story.

On a side note, a Doom movie is in the making. I just hope it turns out better then Wing Commander or Resident Evil. I think they could make a great suspense flick out of it, but they are probablt going to go the action route.

And completely OT, I had a crazy idea for a video game, unfortunatly it was so cliche its not even funny. It would be a mix of Doom 3 (except instead of Mar its Guantanamo Bay, Cuba gets overrun by zombies/something, come on they can't just have the detaines down there, gotta be some kind of experment.) and Far Cry, if you can see it you can go there (except Cuba of course, go to close and get shot by the commies or step on a mine, but you can get close enough to watch them have some target practice on zombies that wander close to the border). Anyway, it would own. I think I should learn how to make games, just so I can make it and own you all with my awsome game

So, has anyone bought the limited edition version of Doom3 yet? If it really comes with Doom and Doom II, I want to get it...
