Anyone here have Progressive insurance?
Anyone here have Progressive insurance?
Since vehicle insurance is required in California, I decided that since my old policy expired 2 weeks ago, and I have been driving with no insurance, that I should take care of that problem. I went on the progressive.com website and loaded up a quote. For just my 2005 F150 STX S/C, with a $1000 comp/collision deductible, and medical payments (no additional coverages), it came out to $133 a month. Does this seem high to you guys? For your info, I am 25 years old, unmarried, and had one ticket nearly three years ago that is set to go off my record soon. What do you guys think? I went ahead and started the policy since it has better coverages than my old one for about $20 less a month, but I wanted some opinions. Is Progressive generally higher than other insurance companies? I dont know...what do you guys think?
There may be lots of reasons why your insurance is that much. Location, the statistics around your vehicle and year model, theft numbers, etc. For the sake of comparison, I'm also 25 and unmarried, but have no tickets or points on my license; with full coverage on my F150 (don't recall the deductible, but I've got collision and property damage and uninsured motorist and all that good stuff), my insurance is $55 per month.
But who is your insurance company? What I am trying to find out is if Progressive is typically more than everyone else or not. That's all. Also, you are in Knoxville, Tennessee, and I am in Southern California, near the LA Basin. This may also have a lot to do with it. I know vehicle theft/accident rates are much higher here than anywhere else. But hey, as I stated previously the $133 is a $20 a month cheaper than my old insurance company (Viking Insurance of Wisconsin), plus now I can pay my policy online, and I am dealing directly with the insurance company and not going through a broker. It makes more sense to me. Anyone else?
I had progressive and they were charging me almost $2400 a year for 2 cars with comp and liability. I figured that was INSANE. I called Unitrin Direct after getting a flyer in the mail for them. They are based in california. They saved me $1200 a year in insurance for the same coverage on the 2 vehicles. Then recently I purchased the truck and had to up the coverage on one vehicle to have $250 deductible collision. My premium only went up $200 a year. So I pay $1400 for my mustang with comp and my truck with collision. And trust me I have a horrible traffic record. They have done good by me so far. Maybe want to check them out. www.unitrindirect.com
im with progressive. its running us 1800 for 3 cars 1dui w/ accident (my stepdad) and 1reckless w/accident (me) both of them were our fault. lol, either ways....my truck solo with 1k deductable and gap issurance as well as a few of the other common options is about $750 @ 6months...or more like $120ish each month.
the service is pretty good, they took care of me when i had my accident real quick. paid everything out quickly and effectively.

You've got a new 2005 truck and you're driving around with no insurance....
Good luck.....
Negative, I have insurance now. I bought the Progressive policy... I mentioned that earlier. The reason I got it was because they are well known and I hear their payouts are good. I dont have the best driving record in the world, but as of today I am insured. And, not to mention but I dont think my insurance company (the old one) does any notifying on its own, I think I have to do it all. They are too cheap to do so... but the problem is taken care of now, and I am not worried. I have been driving for 11 years and have never had an accident, but that doesnt account for the stupidity of other people on the road. *knocks on wood* But no worries, as of today I have what my finance company calls "full coverage." They said I can get whatever I want as long as I have minimum liability and comp/colission coverage, any deductible. I got the $1000 deductible. I would have gone $2500, but the savings would have been like $2.00 a month. Not worth it...
OK I am done. LOL

I might add I have never been in an at fault accident.. well I had the bad luck of getting side swiped just 2 days after getting my 2005 STX... I had to have the passenger side fender replaced and pay a $500 deductable... you guys must all have super high deductables with rates that low... thats the only thing I can think of as to why you have such low monthlys.
My deductible is only a grand, not too hard to come up with since I work in sales now. I have one ticket in 12/03, and no accidents ever. I pay 133 a month on the same truck you have, at age 25. 2005 STX 4.6 V8. I'm happy with the rates, like I said, they're cheaper.
I have prgressive on my motorcycle and AAA on my cars and home. I have previously been insured with State Farm and Farmers. I have lived in Los Angeles and Orange Counties all my life.
I have found Progressive cheaper on my bike and AAA cheaper on home and cars. STAY AWAY FROM MERCURY. I was hit on my bicycle by a car. It was his fault. Minor injuries and damages. Took over 8 months for MERCURY to settle with me. I finally talked to a lawyer. He said MERCURY was the worst insurer for paying claims. Low rates, yes. If you ever have a claim you are screwed.
I now work commercial finance for a living. Many years ago, I managed a car loan portfolio for a finance company. Insurers are REQUIRED BY LAW to notify a "LOSS PAYEE" (your finance company/lienholder) when a policy is cancelled for any reason. Your loan contract than gives the finance company the right to add insurance to your vehicle at your expense. This insurance covers only the financed vehicle at your expense. If you refuse to pay the added insurance premium, your loan is considered delinquent. Your car is now subject to repossession, your credit report shows a delinquency, etc. This insurance is very expensive. YOU DO NOT WANT TO LET THIS HAPPEN.
Everybody needs to have liability insurance. This is the law. If you drive a financed vehicle, you need to carry collission and comp. Your loan contract will tell you what deductibles your lender will accept. Luckily for you, most lenders have a 'GRACE PERIOD' for insurance lapse. This varies by lender. This 'GRACE PERIOD' can range from 5 days to 30 days. I do not know any lender that allows more than 30 days before adding insurance.
Good luck.

Just be glad you dont live in Maryland...insurance companies are required to report when they add or drop you. With a report of a drop and no add those two weeks could cost you a big fine here in MD.
