Thumbs down Some people are just plain crazy

Highway standoff

This incident happened here in town today and it caused a massive traffic jam. State Troopers puledl a car over for speeding on the interstate, she then sped off, they pulled her over again, and she pulled a gun, threatened suicide and then sped off again. They caught up to her again a few more miles down the road and then she shot her passenger point blank killing him. I missed the traffic since I had went a different way around and they said traffic was backed up in all directions for many miles along the interstate. This area is right outside of downtown and is very congested at that time of day already.

They are going to charge her with murder, but she will probably get off by saying that she was insane and didn't know what she was doing.

If you kill someone, then you must be mentally unbalanced. If you are mentally unbalanced, you should be considered insane. Therefore, all people that kill are insane. Either everyone gets off with that plead, or nobody gets off with that plead. Hang'em high, and hang'em often!

Insanity should not be allowed as an excuse to kill someone. Unless you were like 4 or 5, then you should know right from wrong even if you were an insane person. I just do not think that pleading insanity is a valid argument when you have kill someone on purpose. These people KNEW what they were doing when they murdered someone, now they have to face the consequences.

I was reading on our news site at another story where they guys lawyers were trying to plead insanity because he had killed a 6 year old boy and put him in the oven. he said that he didn't think the boy was dead, so he didn't think he did anything wrong.

Until insanity is ruled out as a defense, then there will be murderers on the loose. Way too many people just get a slap on the wrist when they have killed someone because they said they didn't know what they were doing.

BTW, they identified the girl, she was 27 y/o. The passenger has not been identified yet.

For this particular set of circumstances, I would agree with you. However, I wholeheartedly disagree with that rationale in general. If a gun-toting thug breaks into my home in the dark of night and attempts to assault me or my loved-ones, am I insane or mentally unbalanced for killing the criminal in their defense? If so, then lock me up and throw away the key because I'm crazy.

Please don't make hasty generalizations about all gun crimes.
