This detection covers HTML documents (such as web pages and HTML formatted email messages) that contain malicious JavaScript, which exploit an Internet Explorer vulnerability resulting in Internet Explorer displaying one location in the Address bar, but actually loading the content from a different site. Such URL spoofing can result in attackers creating forged versions of legitimate sites in order to steal account information, personal information, etc.

There are no obvious symptoms of this exploit. Files detected as JS/Stealus are benign themselves. No system changes or damage occurs from accessing an JS/Stealus file. However, following an exploited hyperlink within a detected file can result in users being tricked to divulge personal information, install malicious software, etc.

I'd have to say this is a scam, I have a different e-mail address that I use to register for just about everything, and I am always getting junk e-mails in it. I got an e-mail that was very similar to this one from e-bay, and I beilieve the address was from austrailia because of the .au at the end of it. Best part of it is that I have never used e-bay, nor have I ever registered, so I just deleted the e-mail immediately.

SCAM...

I get alot of the EBAY, SAFE HARBOR, PAYPAL scams in one of my e-mail boxes.

It's amazing, they'll make an EXACT duplicate website except the "B" or "A" in Ebay or paypal will be in a different font. NO WAY you can tell.

Clever little c@cksuckers

By all means I picked up on it, but it was exactly what your saying l-menace that blew me away. It was like the identical e-bay site, with all the correct links, all the right copyright BS, everything. And YES of course I immediately picked up on the extra couple of letters in the url, but they threw that "your registered out of country BS at you" and this e-mail is from out of country, to make you think, hmm, ok maybe ???

As said I DID NOT fill in my name or pw, and I did not follow it further than the orig link to the place they asked for it.
It was that split sec ur change that caught my eye and when I saw the work POLICE I was like, WTF, this is DEF a scam.
Why they would even use the word police in it is beyond me ???
And yes I clicked the link about a hundred times trying to get the full url name, but got dam does it only show for a mili sec. After about a hundred trys all I could get was the beginning
cnypolice----something----- and then it fowared to the other url.

To put anyone at ease that also clicked the link I showed,
I just ran full everything scan's all afternoon and I HAVE NOTHING. 131,350 files check, NOTHING found. Ad Aware SE, Spy Bot, Search and Destry, numerous Virus Scans, I'm clean...

In that info Doug posted,
(Thank you so much Doug for fixing that link BTW )
I got out of it that "if" you give your name and pw, that is when you are really in trouble. I have MANY programs protecting me, and it clearly seems nothing got in TG....

Sorry again all, I was only trying to help.

Hey Rob. It's the latest scam, where crooks set up identical web sites and they send you an email prompting you to put in sensitive personal information thinking that by doing so you are remedying a problem. I have received several of these from banks, banks that I don't even do business with.

These web sites record user names, passwords and social security numbers (or whatever you enter that they are asking for)obviously for the scammers to get something for nothing, at your expense.

Legit banks and other entities will never send you an email asking you for private information.

Good that you were suspicious.

I got one similar Several months ago and I went to the real E-bay page and asked the real E-bay security. They contacted me back and asked me to forward it to them... They then replied that it was a Spoof E-mail (AKA scam) and the various things to look for to know it would be from them IF they would ever need anything... They said they were taking steps at that time to track the origin of the e-mail down.

Reprot your e-mail here
