Unhappy How much do those rear windows cost?

We pulled over to let a herd of semi's by that were hauling supplies to the north slope of Alaska. One of them kicked up a big rock and took out my back window. Chock this one up in the seriously sucks category.

The initial hole was about 4" tall by 18" wide and was located on the bottom, middle portion of the window. We punched it out into the bed though as glass kept breaking off and falling into the cab.

That sucks.

Was this on the Haul (sp?) road? I was on that a few summers ago, and the semi's were hauling ***. And that road has got to have the most crosses on every turn out of any road that I've been on. Some corners had 5+ crosses...

The view is nice on the road, especially the Brooks range.

Nah, it wasn't a semi, it was the flock of ptarmigan you were going after. They knew what you were up to, so they chucked a rock through your window when you weren't looking. Damn rogue ptarmigan, think they run the joint.

I checked out a few websites for back glass and found that they aren't cheap. About $750 bucks through www.burdford.com, about $700 through www.fordpartsonline.com. Good luck, bro.

Yea, this was the good ol' Haul Road. I drive around the northern portion about 80-100 times a year out hunting, trapping or just getting out of town. We pulled over at this specific spot since we had about 6 semi's coming up our butts, and saw a few ptarmigan off the road a ways. We pulled way off, and went after the ptarmigan. To make matters worse, I shot at a ptarmigan, missed the little bugger, and lost my freekin' arrow. Talk about a bad pit stop.

I'm sure the Prudhoe rates are going to lay the smack down on me with this window. I'm not doubting that they will charge around a grand to replace it. I wonder how my insurance will cover this? I'll see if I can't get both the front and back windows replaced under the same claim. The front window is getting pretty bad too.

These are some little bad *** ptarmigan up here though, I wouldn't doubt that they had a few decoy's out and the flock attacked the truck. I at managed to get one of the little buggers though. A little redemption.

Here's a picture we took from the road last night. The ice is glazed over with the slightly warmer temps, and the sun was beating down on it. It looked like the ocean except in white.

Vegastrac,

I was up that way last August. We were out in the bush on the Sheenjek River just on the south side of the continental divide.

I scared up about 10 ptarmigan in a willow thicket while fishing around a lake. It scared the He!! out of me.

I wish I would have been carrying the trusty 12 ga. I could have taken out the entire lot........

I should be up that way again in late June of this year... It's an awsome place !!!!

As far as the glass goes being up there your kind of screwed. Hopefully someone will take mercy on you.
