i just bought a 1990 ranger with a 5 speed, i can't seem to get it out of gear. I went to start it with the clutch all the way in, and the brake applied, and the thing jerked forward. It doesn't want to go to or from gears just sitting. Any hints or clues? I am new to driving a stick so that's one problem.

 

Bad clutch disc. sounds like the clutch in not working. try starting it in neutral.

 

never mind, we got it to work. The thing wouldn't shift out of first gear, not even shift into neutral. I yanked on the shifter and it came loose and now it's perfect. It turns out it was something with the reverse lock out thing that's why when we drove it and it was stuck in first the back up lights were on. Well it's all good now, i drove it plenty today and it shifts like a dream.
