Thumbs up New addition to the family…

2005 Focus ZX3 SE. I have to tell you this is one really nice car. First, I can’t believe the pick-up this thing has for a 4 cylinder. Second, I can’t believe how much room there is inside, specifically in the back. The back set has plenty of room for a grown adult and is one of the softest and most comfortable back set I have ever sat in. It’s almost like a couch.

Bought it at Portsmouth Ford in New Hampshire and paid $11,300. Automatic, A/C, power windows & door locks, CD and MP3 player, cruise control, audio controls on the left side of the steering wheel, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, power moon roof, it’s just about loaded but you can also get traction control and a few other goodies. Along with the standard 3/36 warranty it also comes with a 5/100,000 power train warranty.

Gas mileage is 26 city, 32 freeway. Never thought I would buy my daughter a brand new car, and actually I didn’t. She is responsible for the monthly car payments and insurance. I spent the past 2 months looking at used cars. First started with private sales and nothing I would trust anybody in. Second the used car lots and of course they think anything they have that runs is gold and price it so.

The few used cars at car lots I did feel comfortable with where not much cheaper then going new and many only had the 30 day / 1 month warranty. Even looked at some used Focus’s, 2000 (50,000 plus miles) wanted $9,000, 2002 (37,000 miles) wanted $10,500 and a 2004 which must have been a rental and they wanted $11,800 and it had 24,000 miles on it.

Another thing I find remarkable about the Focus’s is there safety rating. They rate higher in the offset impart into a cement barrier at 40mph then did my generation of F-150 (Gen II Lightning). Also rated very well on the side impact. Of course the new F-150 rate very well in both test.

Had seen a Chevy Cavalier, 2004 with 12,000 miles for $10,100 but it has a bad safety rating, like a damn tin box and I don’t care for the look or brand.

Best part was my daughter was not expecting to get a new car. She knew I was looking for some decent used cars and then we would go scope them out. She was really surprised when we went down to Ford and I told her for the money she intended to spend per month for car payments and insurance could put her into a new Focus.

Never thought I would get a new car for my daughter but I can say I sure do feel very comfortable with the safety and warranty, including the Roadside Assistance. My daughter is my life and she has been through a lot. Endometriosis, her mother’s husband tried to molest her and almost got himself killed by me and thus the reason I have custody of her now, and her mother rarely pays attention to her or sees her unless it fits her plans.

With all that she has maintained good grades 80’s and 90’s, hasn’t got into drugs or drinking and really makes me proud. I thought it was a nice thing to do for her and give her some responsibilities.

She chose the color on her own, she was between dark shadow gray and sonic blue. She was worried if she got the sonic blue I would be upset since my truck is sonic blue. I told her no way would I be upset and to pick the color she wants or she would regret it later.

Oh, and yes, Dad put 3 coats of Zaino on it today…

So here are some pictures:

Tell her daddy needs to use those ugly wheels for winter snow tires, then the hot wheels & summer rubber to spruce that puppy up. Other than that, you done real good pops.

Thanks

As a matter of fact she is already talking about saving money for some new wheels…

She also informed me not to worry about any fart pipes because she thinks they are gay, love this kid…

Nice car. My father has one back in England and it surprised me too at how well it went for a small car.
My oldest girl is almost 17 (legal driving age in the UK) and won't even consider anything modern like that.
She has set her heart on a 1960's VW Beetle and wants to do it like the old Cal-Look.

I can live with that

I drove a 2003 Focus for my company car before they decided to go Chevy and it was pretty good. By the time I got rid of it, it was starting to go down hill, but it was a great car and never had any problems with it. If I was looking to buy a newer small car, it would definitely be another Focus.
