Hi there Tiswas, welcome to the site.

Fan of the Phantom Flan Flinger by any chance

I'm afraid that both your pics are of concept cars.

If you want an L, search out the classifieds here or www.autotrader.com
You'll need to enter a zip code so use 77043 which is west Houston.
I've got a mate back home who runs his own import agency if you want me to put you in touch.

You have the Focus RS, which I believe is turbocharged? Here there is (was, no longer in production) an SVT Focus, with a 170hp NA 2.0. You have the better Focus over there. You get all the good cars over there. It's not fair!

There are many of us here that would like to see the concept Lightning go into production. If you look around the web, there is mention of the posibility of a gen 3 Lightning, but who knows. I don't know about over there but here Ford seems more interested in producing rental cars than performance. Ok, they did good with the Mustang, but come on, I can't move anything in a Mustang!

The '99-'04 Lightning went for around $32k-$34k new.

Yep, those are concepts.

For now anyway, the '04s might be the last L's for a while/ever

He can have all the Foci in the world as long as we get to keep our Supertrucks.

Used Lightnings over here are going anywhere from 15K for a ragged out '99 to 25-26K for a low mileage '03-'04. It all depends on what you're wanting and willing to spend.

Envy? Gas (petrol) is above $1. I believe the average price is $2.50 a gallon. Yes, it's a lot less than $8.50, but they're doing the same thing here as they are doing to you there. Tax, tax, tax. How much of that $8.50 (4.50 pounds) is tax?

I'm sure your aware of the US obsession with gas guzzeling trucks and SUV's. These things are getting 10, 12, maybe 14mpg. It would be nice if we were offered more "econo-boxes" that had better performance, like the Focus RS. The car market here is lack luster right now. If you have money, and lots of it, you can affort a fuel efficient performance vehicle. Our "big three" domestics may be producing performance automobiles, but they don't sell them here. Europe and Australia get the best of what Ford offers, I think.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

TiSwAs -

The Lightning (no "e") you have in your first pic was indeed a concept. It was intended to be the next generation L, but was cancelled a few months ago.

The most recent Lightning (the last year made) was in 2004 and looked like this:

The second vehicle (the one that sez "Sport-Track" on the grill area) is actually going to be built here in the States. It will be the SVT Adrenaline. Yeah, I know, stupid name.

As for the the Focus RS being the SVT Focus, not so. The RS kicked *** over the SVT version sold in the US. All Focus Fans had been screaming for the RS to be brought stateside when it was announced in the UK, but it never happened (although it took quite some time for it to debut in Europe due to numerous problems)

The RS was very close to being a street legal version of Colin McRae's Rally car. A lot of the parts in the racing version were used in the RS, including the Sparco seats, the Garrett turbocharger, OZ racing wheels, the Brembo brakes (sweet), the Sachs dampers, the Quaife differential, and the AP racing clutch.

The SVT focus was basically a dressed up Focus with a slightly tuned engine, nicer body kit and wheels and sporty like interior. Nothing like the pocket rocket the RS was.

If you wait a couple of years you will be able to bring an SVT Adrenaline over your way, although it ain't no Lightning.

Best of luck.

Cheers

k

Wow! That's first I've seen/heard of the RS. I'm not really a big fan of the Focus, like LGJ, but if they had the RS here, I think my GF would be trading her Civic for one whether she liked it or not!

Sorry, the Stang can't go...

Where can I find out more on that RS? Don't suppose there was ever a LH drive version...

closer9, I believe that there is a link on the Ford site to the Ford global sites. You can see the Focus RS and a bunch of other cool cars that we don't get here.

Australia gets some cool ones. I swear theyd kill if they put the falcon out in the states. The model with the v8 looks sweet, I wonder if it performs as well as you think it might?
