Help me convince my friend
One of my buddies here at school knows NOTHING about cars:
He's got a 96 Blazer 4.3 AWD. Its got about 115,000 miles on it. He bought it with 96,000 on it. He knows nothing about cars and does not believe me when i tell him that they do in fact need regular maintence in order to function properly for long periods of time:
1) He paid $8400 for this piece of crap. He had to replace the raidiator and alternator THE DAY AFTER he bought it. He didnt understand why they went bad because "I just bought this thing, it shouldnt have anything wrong with it." He doesnt understand that someone else drove it 96,000 miles BEFORE he got it...
2) He hasnt changed the oil since he's owned it (almost 20,000 miles) Thats on dino oil, he says that 20 bucks for oil change and filter is too much to invest in.
3) Transmission is dry. Dipstick was rusted to the dipstick tube. Very gritty stuff on the end of the dipstick, and almost no fluid.
4) Last year he was forced to pay for a coolant flush becuase all of the hoses were clogged up with dirt/rust and kept overheating and shutting off...it was nasty when i took it to Jiffy Lube and watched the guys pressure clean it...surprising what will come out of a raidiator hose...yuck!
5) Front brakes are GONE. This thing barely stops, rotors go thump thump, squeaking and squalling like all get out.
I just dont get it, he thinks that "If my car is meant to break down, then it will break down...what will happen will happen." ARGH!!! Thats something you say to your girlfriend when you break up with her, not your dam car!!!
Oh well, at least my truck is fine, his Blazer is about to chit on itself!

Green: Your friend is plain ignorant right there. If he refuses to listen to advice even though his pos is s'ing all over itself, just let him be. Doesn't sound like he -wants- to be convinced.
Yea, he's a good guy but just genuinely stupid. City boy, basically that came to college, no knowledge of what anything is. He didnt know what a hay bail was till he knew me.
His reason for voting for John Kerry was, quote:
"By God, at 18 you can be drafted and die overseas in our military but you cant even buy a beer. Thats why i voted for Kerry!"
Doesnt even make sense. Not even close.....some people are genuinely stupid i guess....?

Yep...
I think that he is justifiying his vote for Kerry by admitting that hes scared and dosent want to fight if he is needed to. So he voted for the one that will most likely to have us run and hide before fighting.
Basically it is his money and his cars. Just dont buy any of them from him.
I know it's hard for us car guys to see anything be abused like that. Then he will probably say. "I will never own another one of them.. I had one and it was a piece of Sh*t!"
One day he will stumble into a descent car that dosent have any problems and drive it for a long time and say hey those are good cars.
It will help to give anologies in something that he understands. What is he in to? Hobbies etc.

I've known people like that, scary. A lot of people buy "throw away cars" and don't give a **** if the thing up and quits on them, they'll just buy another. Some people just have more money than brains.
Well, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Just let him be. With the Chubby in the condition its in, it will not live very long. I would hammer him about how bad they are (You know what's the *real* problems are with that Chevy) and drill it into his head that he should buy a Ford next time. Hey, what's friends for, right?
It looks like he may be spending more money to fix the thing than he spent on it.

I cant believe he gave 8400 for a 6 year old car and put another 1500-2000 in it the next day, plus what he's going to have to do if he doesnt take care of it...and knowing him he'll have his dad back him up if his tranny or engine goes out....
just doesnt make sense....common sense people!!!!
