Talking Towing a Chevy

My best friend has a 1995 Chubby Silverado. He called me on Saturday and asked if I was busy. He apparently lost his brakes going to work. He still has the original rotors on his truck with 125K miles on them. Talk about a death wish. Anyhow, I went to Uhaul and rented a car dolly and towed his cubby to the shop. I got a call from him today. He told me BOTH of his rotors popped off of the hubs. He needs new rotors and pads. Now, if the shoe was on the other foot, would you let your Ford be towed by a Chubby to the gargae? And no, I didn't take pictures. Although I wanted to.

What do you guys think?

Dave

PS I LMAO all the way to the garage.

You are very lucky too. I have a 97 with 140 K and had nothing but issues with my rotors. I can't tell you how many I have had on my truck.

Oh yea, I am calling AAA before a Chubby towes me to a garage.

The only time I would be towed by a Cheby is if I was in the middle of the mountains 4-wheeling and there weren't many people around. I guess I better wheel with Fords... Oh yeah, I do.

Ahhh, My friends and I are not that hung up on the whole this is better than that thing. We've been around the block a few times with all of them and know that they are all mechanical items. All mechanical items wear and break evetually. If theirs breaks down I go get them and help them fix it. When mine breaks down they'll do the same for me. Mine will break down eventually and I want to beable to know that I can call someone other than use my insurance and risk an Idiot tow truck driver tearing up my truck.
(Had one haul my Jeep Cherokee on the back of a roll back one time to my buddies house that was nearby. He backed into his house WITH MY JEEP! While trying to line it up with the garage. 3 Guys yelling STOP! STOP! STOOOPPP! Crunch. UMM You might want to stop now. LOL)

Nothing. My father in law is neighbors with a gentleman who owns 3 garages and rents uhauls out. The only thing it cost me was a favor to my father in law. Now THAT could be expensive.

Yea, I can appriciate your point about the rotors and miles. Here in Pittsburgh the geography is not as flat as Indiana, Illinois, Texes etc.. Up and down the hills for a daily driving is a killer on your brakes. Add in the fact he tows a 18 FT Bayliner everyweekend in the summer and I think he over stepped the expected life of his rotors. Did I mention he like to stomp on the gas off the line from red light to red light. I am not saying 130k+ miles are not unattainable, but based upon what I know/see I think he was amiss for not changing them sooner.

A few years ago i was going to help my father in law (at the time) move a pool table. He had a guy he worked with come over in a custom Chevy pulling his trailer. He had a custom car hauler that he hauled his racecar on. He is die hard Chevy and me of course Blue Oval. I walked up to look at his trailer and introduced myself. I told him he had a nice trailer, too bad he was pulling it with a Chevy. He laughed and told me that he knew I was going to say something about it, my father in law told him i was a Ford guy. I picked on him a minute about his Chevy not being able to back that trailer up the steep driveway. He laughed and told me to stand back. He was backing up the driveway when all of a sudden a loud pop came from his transmission. He lost reverse. He was still able to drive forward, but had no reverse. He hated to, but he pulled out next to the curb and let me hook to it with my F150 (at the time a 1995 Eddie Bauer F150 Scab). We moved the pool table and then he asked me if I would pull his truck home on his trailer. I smiled and told him that would make my day. The really funny thing is, when we pulled up in front of his house, his wife came out and was giving him crap. Her dad was the service manager at the Ford dealer and she was a Blue Oval girl.

To answer the original question, heck no I would not! I'd rather let my truck sit and rot to pieces before I'd let somebody tow it with a Chevy...

Me too..

If I really wouldn't let a Chev pull me, then I wouldn't waste the gas, wear and tear on my truck to pull one either! If I knew that I wasnt going to allow myself to get anything in return if I need it later. The why even bother?
