Actually, VW is working on a model that will slot between the Passat and Phaeton, so I am going to mark your sales prediction here, cia.

I'll take Ford's version of a luxury performance car: Aston Martin Vanquish, in black of course

Holy cow!

I have worked in a few factories and still work as a freelance manufacturing consultant occasionally. Yet I have NEVER seen a facility that clean and prestine. Heck I wouldn't mind working assembly there!

Think it's been a little longer then that. My 01' GTI has major quality issues which is why I'm selling it. And that platform has been around with same issues since 99' I think.

The Audi's seem to have there own issues, but from what I've read it mostly because Audi techs are idiots and those cars are/can be worse to work on the BMW's and MB's.

Any problem that VW has, you can bet that Audi will, too, as a LOT of technology is shared on these cars.

The pic of that engine reminds me of the pic that Ford circulated of the 5.4 SC Lightning engine back in '99 with all the polished/chromed parts. As if.

I dont know how many times I've been glad that I took the time to put a mirror finish on my crank shaft...

I agree. I love having my crank polished every chance I get.

Yeah, it's a great forearm workout

In that pic above, note how it's a W12. The cylinder offsets are odd. There are basically two narrow-angle VR6 motors joined at the crank. Each VR6 uses only one cylinder head, as opposed to two cylinder heads on most every other V-type engine.

The offset of that crank is very complex. A lot of engineering work went into that engine in the design phase. many in the industry said that the engine would never be reliablly built...
