Sony PSP
Sony PSP
I picked up a PSP today. This thing is sweet. Picture is awesome, sound is prett good. I haven't got to play around with it much, but I plan on it this long weekend. I read where they plan on offering wireless internet, already built in, but not available yet, TV tuner, GPS, camera........the list goes on and on.
The downside, the disca are proprietary. Other than that this thing is very cool!

I'm too old for that kinda stuff...
Now X-Box, that's a different story...
PS is trying to 1-Up Microsoft. If I were Bill Gates, I'd make the next Gen X-Box where it's able to play all previous PC games (That don't require a keyboard to play).
Come on Bill! Where's the Killer Instinct. Bring me on board, pay me $300,000.00/year, plus stocks, plus an $1,100 a month car allowance (You know, for travel) and I'll put Sony out of the video game business, in a subtle, yet effective manner...

No, it plays a new disc format for movies and games. That is what I meant by proprietary. That is the downside. However it is pretty cool. It makes the gameboys look ancient and the Nintendo DS look dated already. Check one out. You will be amazed
PSP
Cia-agent, too old??? This thing plays games, movies, music, stores pics right out of the box. They are talking about adding all sorts of goodies. I bought it more for movies than games, but the kids will like it on our flight to Hawaii this summer. My 2 yr old has already mastered the Nintendo GB advance that I bought for his big sister 2 yrs ago. lol And he sits right next to me whenever I pull out the X-Box....."shoot the bad guys daddy!!"
screwbuilder: Let me know how well the square button works!
I'm holding off until I find out if it's been fixed.
Quote:
In a recent interview, SCE president Ken Kutaragi disclosed that over 4,800 Japanese gamers have sent in their PSPs for repair due to issues with the square button. The complaint is that the button is not sensitive enough, requiring it be pressed stronger than the others. Kutaragi admitted that it wasn't an issue with the PSP as it was part of the design. Because of its close proximity to the screen, the sensor under the button is a bit misaligned. Kutaragi stated, "This is the design that we came up with. There may be people that complain about its usability, but that's something which users and game software developers will have to adapt to. I didn't want the PSP's LCD screen to become any smaller than this, nor did I want its machine body to become any larger."
Check out this page, and you'll see that the square button doesn't entirely line up with the actual sensor. In fact it only covers about 1/3 of the sensor.

Basically, Sony sacrificed playability just so they could get their buttons all in a perfect circle. Good job! I just say thank GOD for Japanese guinea pigs!

The one that is hurting is Nintendo. I hear something about a touch sreen instead of a controller. That wont work. THINK GUYS, THINK! What does the consumer want?! Instead of taking this battle into "the future" of gaming. Make a powerful machine with tons of software. Software is the key.
My son has the DS and it is a pretty nice system. The Wi-Fi is pretty cool and he likes the touchpad. Plus it plays all the other games I've spent money on with GB X
The PSP doesn't have much interest for me as a buying parent. I'm sure it will attract the 13-25 year old crowd with its amazing screen.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata gave his keynote address at the Game Developer's Conference and the majority of his speech focused on wireless connectivity and their next-gen console, currently codenamed Revolution. Iwata confirmed that IBM is working on the processor, codenamed "Broadway," while ATi is handling the graphics chip, codenamed "Hollywood." Two big surprises came out of the presentation. First, Revolution will be backwards compatible with the GameCube. Second, Revolution will come standard with wi-fi capabilities.
Also, Nintendo will roll out this year a free Wi-Fi connection service for the Nintendo DS. Hot spots will be put up around the country in places such as coffee shops and hotels. An Animal Crossing game is in development to take advantage of this new network.
"This is Nintendo's plan: make our existing game world better," Iwata said. "For us, this is a passion. This is a mission of adventure."
*also*
Nintendo's next-gen system, codenamed 'Revolution' is supposedly going to have built in broadband, dual processors, HD-DVD support, gyroscopes in the controllers, and backwards compatiblility with Gamecube. And they expect new Mario, Zelda & Super Smash Bros games to be available at launch. Gyroscopes should be neat, could play games like Super Monkey Ball just by rotating the controller around to make the monkey ball move on screen.
And there's a report out that the PS3 does in fact clock in at 4.6ghz. Wow. Both of these are due out next year, and the XBox 2 supposedly shipping this November, just in time for Christmas. Should be interesting.
All in all, It looks like I'll be broke after they all come out... LOL

Instead of the Nintendo DS, Nintendo should have produced a hand held going directly after the PSP. Basically they should have made a portable GameCube. Imagine being able to play all your GC games on a portable
. I'd be set.
With that said I really like the PSP, my co-worker picked it up yesterday. The sound sucks if you don't use headphones. The screen is very nice, and playing Spiderman2 movie a few of us were shocked it looked so good. Wipeout is fun
