YoMaN,

We checked out a bunch of beds a few years back. That TemperPedic is tops. We looked at Kings Down, and Select Comfort. But, stupid me insisted on getting a water bed again, cuz I had one as a teenager, and loved it.

I ended up getting a Frameless Waterbed, and love it, but when it dies, I'm sold on the Select Comfort. You should at least try it before you go with the TemperPedic, although that is one killer setup also. I did buy a memory foam pillow, but hated it.

My sleep number was 40.

We've had a Select Comfort bed for the last 10 years and I will buy another one when and if this one ever wears out. It is so nice for my husband and I to sleep on the type of mattress we each prefer and still sleep in the same bed!!

When I was shopping around I found those to be very uncomfortable.

But can they buy those outside of Colorado? They are pretty good beds at a good price but I wouldn't say the best. I got a Sealy from another place and the price was damn near as close on sale. I found it to be a bit softer of a pillow top. I was very close to getting the Denver Matress when I decided to go with the Sealy.

We've had one for a year also. I think it's good. My wife thinks it's great. The only con is the price(ours was about $1,800 for a queen). I would recommend trying it in the store as it is likely to be different than what your used to.
As far as helping w/ your back: I would say that it should(it's a firm mattresss) Also keep in mind that a regular box spring is no good. A platform or something flat is needed.

The Tempur Pedic is not an air bed, it's the "Space Age Memory Foam" which I understand is very comfortable. I have the Select Comfort air bed, had it for 10 years with no problems at all and we love it!
