Everest, Expedition Max, or Excursion

In this months Motor Trend, a saavy photogapher caught a glimpse of a Ford test mule in Arizona. It was a lightly disguised Ford Expedition that was at least a foot longer.

Insiders say that Ford hasn't decided on a name yet, but the choices so far seem to be Everest, Expedition Max or Excursion. I like Expedition Max, or Expedition LWB. The Excursion, though nice- has had a stigma about it- I think Ford woul dmake a mistake in badging the new truck as that. Everest would be the same- they may as well call it the Titanic.

They'd do well to call it a variation of the Expedition, and let it ride. Ford, it's about time you popped your head free and built this truck- it's about 8 years overdue= but better late then never..

This vehicle is slated to debut possibly in 2007. This is what I said Ford should have done a long-long time ago. They'd have still been bigger than the Suburban, and the tree-huggers would have stayed quiet. The Excursion is not "pretty" then to claim it's the largest didn't help any... They should never have based the Excursion on the SuperDuty...

If I find pics, I'll post 'em..

Frankly, I think its a bad idea to get rid of the Excursion. It was a SUV built with a purpose that didnt meet everyones needs. The smart move would to leave the Excursion as a fleet vehicle and also make the streched epxy.

You're right, the Excursion has value to many who need a heavy-duty SUV. I mean, Chevy has a 2500 (3/4 ton) & 3500 (1 ton) Suburban still, right?

The real reason why the Excursion got killed = tree huggers.

The Excursion was based on the SD to fit the Powerstroke and the V10.

I dont believe Chevy still makes the suburban in anything but 1/2 ton...We had a '95 3/4 ton suburban with the diesel engine, but that was the last year they made them (and ours was a special order that somebody decided not to buy).

It said 1500 on the side, but it had 8 lug nuts, heavy duty brakes, etc. I think the only difference was that it had the 1/2 ton gears or something like that???
