Petals Around the Rose
RING AROUND THE POSIE
ever wonder what it meant?
Every child has happily joined hands with friends and recited the familiar nursery rhyme, "Ring around a rosie, a pocket full of posies. Ashes, ashes, we all fall down." Few people realize to what this seemingly happy little nursery rhyme actually refers.
This nursery rhyme began about 1347 and derives from the not-so-delightful Black Plague, which killed over twenty-five million people in the fourteenth century. The "ring around a rosie" refers to the round, red rash that is the first symptom of the disease. The practice of carrying flowers and placing them around the infected person for protection is described in the phrase, "a pocket full of posies." "Ashes" is a corruption or imitation of the sneezing sounds made by the infected person. Finally, "we all fall down" describes the many dead resulting from the disease.

After some google searching, and an hour of my life gone, I finally figured it out. It is very simple, but if you are into math, as myself, you will make this harder than what it should be. I kinda feel stupid now, lol.

How about "Jermiah"?
Nursery rhymes again "london bridge", "Molly Thatchet" the list goes on, actually most nursery rhymes have a grim origin.
Leonard Lipton (co-writer):
["Puff" is about] loss of innocence, and having to face an adult world. It's surely not about drugs. I can tell you that at Cornell in 1959, no one smoked grass. I find the fact that people interpret it as a drug song annoying. It would be insidious to propagandize about drugs in a song for little kids.

I wasn't around then but as a history buff I know better! Even old westerns from the 60's set at the turn of the century often depict opium and valume uses and occasionally hint at maryJ too. MaryJ was definaltey not secluded to the 60's in the mainstream, it was only publisized more then. Artist will say anything to get thier songs on the air...
