Hey tball....If I host the party...will you bring the meat?
Looks like you have plenty of meat. I love deer steaks, sausage, jerky, stew, and ground deer for burgers.

No they are not horses or cows HAHA I shot them with an 8MM Mauser.

They were the hardest animals to put down. 1 of them took 4 head shots and just kept looking right at me. Did not even phase her.

They are both doe's hunted 2/04.

This is from 11/04 7x7 Elk 1422 Lbs. Shot with 30.06

Question for tball?

Were those deer grown on a farm or somthing?

They all look alike in their shape.

How can you possibly kill all those deer at the same time if they weren't.

Question.

How much of a difference is the taste of venison (deer) and elk? I have never had elk, so I was wondering if any has tried both and has a preference.

Huge difference. Elk is usually not near as gamey tasting. I don't know about the other parts of the country, but in Colorado, the deer here are forced to eat alot of sagebrush. It transfers to the taste of the meat.

Elk has just a slight gamey taste to it, but it's not too far off in taste from your average bovine (sp?) cow. However, it's extremely lean, and for burger, you have to add about 10% pork fat to have decent patties.

Deer is very good, but elk is better suited for those that don't care for the "wild" taste. Plus, where a good doe will dress out at such and such weight, say 100 lbs, a cow elk will dress out about double. More meat for the same price tag.

Our deer at that gamey here.... They eat corn crop and graze on clover, hard times they eat a lot of acorns. But a lot of land owners here will buy Whole Corn hog feed and spread out for them especially during the winter. There are 6 does that I feed in my front yard early evenings and I have them tame enough to eat while I'm outside and have gotten with in 10 yards while they ate.
