Trade in the Honda?

Okay, no jokes about driving a Honda...besides, it's my wifes car. We bought this Honda Civic new in 1997, and it currently has 125,000 miles on it. It has been 100% trouble free since day one. We've always kept up with oil changes, preventive maintenance, etc. No problems whatsoever in over 8 years. Here's my dilemma...we are expecting a baby in May, and would like to have a newer car (one with 4 doors this time). I'd like to get another Civic, since this one has been so good. My wife wants a PT Cruiser. Both cars are roughly the same price...around 15K. Any opinions? How many more trouble free miles could we expect out of our old Honda?

Dave

My freind drives a 1998 Honda civic, it has nothing in it, no power nothing, but it hasn't given her any problems though. Those Honda civics run forever! Any car will go to at least 200,000 miles with normal matinance these days. It's not un heard of anymore. The Civic on the other hand should reach 200K if not more without a problem. I'd keep that car until the wheels fall off, which in that case could be a long time!

P.T cruiser on the other hand, hate to say it, but don't bother. They have all sorts of problems and IMO look like a mini Hurst. If you are going to go with another car, I'd go for another Honda civic if thats what you like.

Goodluck!

Honda's are excellent vehicles. I wish like heck we hadn't let our 93 Accord EX go...

That said: If you MUST get a bigger car (And with a child seat, I understand)- get the new Honda CRV. It has 4 dorrs, it has space, it's as big as- if not bigger than a PT Cruiser; and it has Honda's reputation for reliability.

Get the CRV, or the Toyota RAV-4.

If you NEED or want a V-6; I'd recommend the Ford Escape, but now you're getting into the 20's....

I agree, keep the Civic. My mother had one for years without a single problem.

Keep the Honda. Or go buy a used Honda AWD CRV Sport. My sister has one and loves it. No problems.

Here are 2 options:

    Either way good luck.

we traded our civic in for an accord when our son was born.

its been perfect for our family needs.

we are on our second accord since (the newest is an 04), and like all the hondas, they have run strong and problem free with basic maintence.

Let the wife get what SHE wants If I was driving the Honda with that many miles, I'd keep it. I wouldn't want my wife driving around in a car with that many miles on it. I don't care who makes it.

My wife wants to trade our Buick LeSabre in on a Toyota RAV4. The Buick has almost 100K miles on it and I said "get what you want"

I haven't heard anything bad about PT Cruisers. A co-worker's wife has one with no problems.

    Good point Justis01.....to a point.

I left it up to my wife the last time, and she ended up getting a KIA. Because the payments are only 150 month. BLAH

If I bought the vehicle and she didn't like it or had trouble with it, I'd never hear the end of it So, if she wants it...no problem!!

I've had 22 years to figure that one out

I haven't had any personal experience with the PT Cruisers but my sister rented one to drive from Missouri to Ohio and she said it was miserable. The space is confining and the seats are very uncomfortable. If it were me I'd go with the Honda...I mean if it were really me, I'd get a '05 Mustang GT but then that's not a very practical family car!! Go with the Honda.

WMR hit on what I was going to suggest. Call around to the rental places and rent one for a day or two and see if she likes it. Better to spend 100 dollars and find out you hate it than own a 20,000 dollar mistake.

I have two friends with PT cruisers. One love her's, the other can't wait to get it sold and buy a Honda Pilot. I've ridden in both, and the seats are not very comfy after an hour or so.
