~Ford Fusion~
Has anyone checked it out yet? My wife and I was talking to a salesman yesterday, and I think I am impressed. Its along the same lines of the 500, but a tad bit smaller. It is supposed to be replacing the Taurus.
It's not a bad looking family car. Check it out here.
Just out of curiousity, I put one together...some really good options for a really good price. The salesman told me it should be hitting the lots in a few months.

D,
You dont like the look of the 500?
I think it looks nice - IMO. Tell ya what, test drive one, just for the hell of it......you'll be impressed with the command seating..its a really nice feature in cars.

The 500 outside is so-so, the interior is nice. I just think the Fusion is much nicer outside, and Ford should have blown-up the Fusion design for the 500. That would be a sweet looking sedan.
The 500, though nice- strikes me as kind of ho-hum. Ford needs a new design team when it comes to cars. They are getting more and more pedestrian in their design. I haven't seen a Ford car (Aside from the Mustang) that made me say; "Damn, would you look at that!!" Cars that have evoked that from me are:
Nissan Maxima
Nissan Altima
Honda TL
BMW 745
Mercedes E-Class
Chrysler 300
I like calling Acura's Honda's because that's what they really are.
The fusion is nice; but they are about 3-years late with the taillight design. You are right, Dzervit- a bigger version of this car (Fusion) would have sat really nicely in the 500 slot and the new Fusion should have been a bit larger, and identical to the 427 Concept. In fact, the Fusion should be dropped and the 427 slotted in as a car below the 500, I'm sorry- the Five Hundred.
What's with Ford and the asthmatic Duratec V-6? They have screwed the 500 and the Fusion by putting this cowardly lion of an engine in its bay. Additionally, the 500 needs to get the 4.6L V-8 Engine as an option.
I saw a Ford Freestyle last night. Really nice looking in person. I think the grill should have been larger & more aggressive to further blur the line between whether it’s a car or an SUV. That vehicle is 90% right; but, as Ford often does; or should I say, doesn't do- they aren't marketing the freestyle at all...
Can you say Blackwood boys & girls? Can you say Marauder? Two nice vehicles release still-born by Ford due to weak marketing...
I worry about the Mark LT.

I usually go to one show a year, the big one here in Detroit. Been to Chicago auto show once or twice.
CIA is right - Ford is way to conservative in their auto design. They really wanted to play it safe with the 500, and it screams fleet vehicle. The duratec v6 isn't a bad motor, it just needs to get reworked. The whopping 2 or 3HP gain (yes, you read that right) over the old version is laughable. Seriously Ford, WTF where you thinking on that one?! If your going to mate that engine with a CVT tranny for the love of pete refine it some more and smooth it out so it doesn't sound like an injured howling wolf.
I think a Fusion-sized 500 w/ the 3.9L V8 & 6-speed tranny outta the LS would make for one hellova sedan.

I like both the 500 and the Fusion. I prefer the cars that are plain and simple. I've seen the 500 around several times and if I was i the market for a midsize sedan, I would take that one over most of the other cars. And not just because they are Fords, but because I actually like the styling of the cars
To be honest, the Nissans and Acuras and Mercedes and Chrysler 300 and BMW's and cars like those do absolutely nothing for me. It seems like every owner of one of those cars has an attitude and are just plain ignorant people. I'm not saying that about everyone, but thats what I see around here.

The Fusion's design is nice- no doubt. It's just too small (See Mazda 6). The Five Hundred is big, but bland. Ford needs to merge those vehicles and make a nice, big- awesome car. Can you imagine the CVT or the 6-speed tranny with the 3.9L V-8?.

I agree about the marketing as there was virtually none. I think the few comercials they ran were during Wimbeldon or something else that stuffy people who wouldn't be caught dead in a truck would watch. I only heard about them while at the Lincoln/Mercury dealership trying to figure out what I was going to get when the lease on my Mountaineer was up.From the reports I've heard I don't have much faith in the Mark LT. I am waiting to see one in person to really figure out how I feel about them.
