Thumbs down 1998 Red Paint Going Bad

My 1998 XLT is Red with silver Trim. I bought it new on 6-3-98. The metal plaque inside the door jam tells me the truck was built in 9/97. This means the truck sat on lots for 6 to 8 months before I got it. The red paint had some 'swirls' in it when new. Most of it came out, not all.
I have the truck waxed every 3 or 4 months. I wash it every 2 weeks on average. My detailer thinks the paint is deteriorating very rapidly these last couple of years. He now thinks a new paint job is in order. He is very shocked, since he knows the paint is well cared for. He thinks I might have gotten a defective paint job.
Anybody have any experience in this area?

you should pose this question in "General Care and Detailing"

The paint gurus live there and would probably be more helpful.

Good luck.
