SS Kicker box in the GT...

Well, I cleaned up the trunk of the GT some today. I still need to build an amp rack, but just never have time, and may be starting a new job one of these days, so may not have a chance...

Anyway, here's my new box. The sub is a 6 year old Kicker 12" XPL. Everyone told me it would sound like crap, so I had to try it anyway... and most of the guys in the shop were talking trash about it while it was being built. So, when it was done they talked me into pulling the Stang into the shop to hear this "POS".

So, I did, and when it absolutely thumped, they all just stood around real quiet. This thing sounds damn good... It ain't the prettiest thing, though. We did use brushed stainless, but we used some drop that had been around awhile, so it was a bit scratched and dull, but not too bad. I like it.

I doubt there are any acoustic advantages. I remember when I was in high school plexi-glass boxes were kinda of the "cool" thing, but I never had one...

I liked this, because:
I "know" it's sealed great...
It's .075" (14ga) thick as opposed to the .75" that I usually use in MDF...
It's got a "cool" factor no MDF/carpet can beat...
All I had to do was design it, and create the drawings...
Nuts are welded to the inside, so mounting bolts are quite secure. No T-nuts to strip out...
