Unhappy I need a job...

Just got back from Georgia this afternoon. Had a one-sided meeting with the self proclaimed head of engineering for our company, along with my co-worker from our AR office. Basically we were told we needed to get our heads up our asses, so we could see things their way, or we should take our two weeks pay and leave. We were also told that if our boss didn't agree he could/would be replaced. Our boss is the president of the company. The son of the "Now retired owner/consultant" who is influenced by the self proclaimed head of engineering.

Well, the meetings were a joke, but at least I got a good steak out of the trip, and I got to visit Georgia for the first time. I didn't know I'd be landing in the back yard of a Ford plant... (Atlanta) I'm no sports fan, but got to see Turner field, and the Falcons training center... I guess that's what it was...

Well, I've been searching the online classifieds, jobs.com, monster.com Not sure why. I never find anything there. They're always looking for guys willing to work for nothing, or guys who have 10+ years experience... Any other places worth trying? I hate to leave NW AR, but may have to...

I don't want to find a new job. I like where I am. I just don't like the direction the other office thinks we need to be going. They don't think anyone from AR knows their *** from a hole in the ground.

Sorry, just needed to... say something...

Monster sux. Careerbuilder.com seems to have a good variety. Try posting your resume on some of those job sites. Sooner or later a headhunter will e-mail asking for your resume again.

Oh, man, do I feel your pain. I was in a job I like, Analytical Technician, for the last couple of years. I had every intention of staying for as long as possible. Come to find out over a staff production/reorganization meeting that the instrument I run will be shipped to Colorado since it's cheaper to maintain it down there and I'll be out of a job. (it costs quite a bit to have a service tech fly to Alaska) I was great at the job, never got a complaint and always met the hold times for the samples I analyzed. Well, long story short, been looking for a new job for about 7 months (I'm still with my current company, they've given me 'till the middle of March) and finally got a nibble from the State of Alaska Environmental Conservation. Seems I got a pretty good shot of getting the position, should know something in a week or two. Plus, they offer benefits, excellent vacation time, and a hell of a retirement, you might want to check out something along those lines.

Good luck in whichever direction you go. Upper management can be a real pisser sometimes. It's easy for them to make a decision, but it doesn't seem like they really care when it comes to the actual workers, or at least that's how I feel.

Closer, sorry things aren't going well on your job. Good luck in your search, hope you can find something you like before you are out of the job you are at.

Exactly. I don't have 30+ years experience...

PSS-Mag,
I do 3D modeling/shop drawings for a custom fab sheet metal/ss shop. Well, we're such a small shop that I do a little bit of everything, but that's my job description, I guess...

98--The way I figure it unless you are completely happy with your job then you should always keep an eye out for something interesting. Even then you should never stop thinking about improving your resume. As JD described he was doing well, no complaints but the boss wants to save money and has to let him go. Due to these reasons I look at the job sites about once a week to see if there is anything interesting being advertised. Many times Monster will have the same jobs listed week after week.

I should prolly have qualified my statement though, because I don't look in other industries on Monster only mine. So my restatement is.....Monster sux for my industry.

Hmmm... Where in MO are you, and what all do you do? I found a lead this morning on a place just a few blocks from my house. I guess I was never aware of what they really do... I'll be contacting them soon.

I also talked to a company that does most of the prototypes for Superior Wheel (who builds most of the OEM wheels on US market vehicles) a while back. Said they would be looking for a new 3D modeler sometime after the new year, so I guess I need to get back with them...

I am in Lebanon 45 mins East of springfield 20 mins South of Lake of the Ozarks.

What part of Ark. are you in? We vacation in Eureka a few times a year. I am ussally in and around Harrison off and on during the week of the fourth of July helping a friend with his fireworks stands. Also have some family around Rogers.

What we do "or are going to do"
I am teaming up with a design engineer from an AC Compressor manufacturer and we are going to build automotive accessories. Hopefully eventually some performance parts too. I am just part financial backer/product concept design/ shop laborer/marketing...We are very small, this project is currently only 2 guys with a dream some equipment Autocad and some other 3D program that I had not heard of, but my partner knows how to use so thats all that matters...LOL

I do need some help in pre press publication design on occasion so thought I would ask about your design experince just incase.

Hmmm... sounds like I should keep in touch with you...

I'm in Rogers BTW...

I have done some architectural stuff, and worked a bit with AutoCAD. It's alright for layouts/architectural/civil stuff, but if you can afford a good 3D program it's a much better tool...

Not sure if I mentioned or not, but I currently use Pro/e Wildfire...

and I'm familiar with Lebanon. Had a friend that lived there for awhile. He worked for Butler Supply, and got me good discounts on stuff from there...

Cool yea we'll keep in touch...Next time I'm down in Rogers visiting, or if your ever in my neck of the woods we'll have to look each other up and we can get some coffee or lunch or something.

I wish I could rember what 3D program he is wanting to get. I know it is $6000. But it renders and test parts for compatability in any material that you input before you fabricate them. It wouldn't take scraping very many prototypes due to mis calculations before it would pay for itself in material cost and time invested. So it is in the budget to buy soon.
