transport company ?

hey, i always see the guys going down the interstate delivering campers. how do i get started in this kind of job and what do they make? ive been doing land surveying for the past couple years and its just getting old working long summer hours and cold winter hours. i would like to start some kind of business on my own and this seemed interesting. i would look at picking up a couple 4x4 dually's and a big rig. i also have several trailers in which i could also haul other items. who should i contact in order get started?

Do you have a local travel trailer dealer in your area? I'd start there if so. Ask them who picks up and delivers their equipment. Most of them either do it themselves, or have it delivered by the manufacturer.

As far as starting your own business, you'd be surprised how much info you can find in an actual library. There is a lot of stuff online, but you can never be sure of the source.

About 3 months ago, I was looking into starting my own business as well...hauling heavy equipment, and running a dump truck. There is a ton of info on everything at the library...if you're willing to invest the time...and you may as well, because you're going to invest an a$$load of money to get started.

Good luck!

I think that would be a good buisness. I work at a cat dealer and some customers haul their own but most have us arange it. we use about 4 local company's. they are always moving equipment. I am not sure how much they charge but when waiting to be loaded they charge us $93 an hour.

go to www.thedieselstop.com and ask this in the Other forum. Or search it first, I know I've seen it asked there before. I think there are several members there that do it, and if I'm not mistaken I have seen somebody say they make $90K per year. And I'm pretty sure that was with only one truck, but I'm not certain.

I have a buddy that does it...actually two buddies. One does heavy equipment only, the other does heavy equipment and owns 3 dump trucks. They do really well and enjoy the hell out of it.
