Question Texas Lake Search

I'll be retiring in three years or so and I'm interested in lake-front property in Texas. My preference is somewhere between Houston and Dallas, from Austin to the Sabine. If any of the members of this forum can give me ideas (and pics? and prices?) of their favorite places, I would surely appreciate it...

The two best looking lakes in Texas have to be Canyon Lake and Lake Travis. It's hard to say which would be best, Travis is getting pretty crowded, but Canyon is a little under-developed, not too many places that you can go by boat and grab a bite to eat or drink.

I know of a sweet deal on a house on a bluff over looking Toledo Bend. Unbelievable view. Look it up. Its on 107 Confederate drive, Hemphill. I think the listing agent is Remax. I think they are asking 115,000 for the house. If it was here in SC, it would be 900,000. Really.

Anywhere in East Texas is a good place. There are lakes everywhere, but the fishing isn't all that great. People around here DO NOT know how to catch and release.

Yea Belton lake is pretty large and alot of the houses around it are up on the cliffs so you get a really nice view. Not sure if there are alot of homes around Stillhouse but thats another fairly big pond around here.

Damn! The folks on this forum are the greatest!

I am going to look into each of your suggestions. Who knows, I might be a landowner by the summer!

Thank you all (y'all)!

Stillhouse hollow and belton are cool lakes. I also went to Inks lake and that was a really cool place also. The lakes down around Houston were over populated and not a nice as the Austin and temple area. I would like to retire in Texas, if i dont move back before that time.

Jamz...

I moved to Texas in 1967 and almost immediately knew I would live here for the rest of my life. Every once and a while, I get reminded about how great the people are here. This was one of those occasions.

Lake Tyler in East Texas is the new hot spot for real estate at a lake. Development is fairly new so you still have a good choice there.

Then it's settled. When I win the HGTV Dream House on Lake Tyler, I'll keep it!
